Embedded Product Analytics Engineering Specialist

Job Summary:

Caterpillar's Large Power Systems Division (LPSD) designs and manufactures diesel and gas engines, ranging from 400 kilowatts to 16 megawatts of power, and the key engine systems such as fuel, air, aftertreatment and cooling which are used to power oil & gas, electric power, marine, rail and Cat machine applications around the world.

Caterpillar's LPSD currently has an opening for an Embedded Product Analytics Engineering Specialist in the Large Engine Digital Insights (LEDI) team which is part of LPSD Product Support and Aftermarket Services (PSAS). This position is located at our Mossville Tech Center facility. In this role, you will successfully lead projects to invent and develop analytics solutions for moderate to highly complex technical problems related to power and engine systems. What sets LPSD LEDI group apart among other digital teams is the combination of deep analytics expertise coupled with engine or engineering domain knowledge.

The team analyzes engine data and develops analytics models for diagnostics, predictive and prognostic condition monitoring. Embedded Product Analytics Engineering Specialist contributes to this mission by acting as an engine and engineering subject matter expert while leading product health projects for LPSD and partner business divisions.

This job role will use applied engine performance and engine system knowledge to execute and lead analytical tasks and initiatives on huge amounts of data to support data-driven business decisions, product support and product development.

What you will do:
  • Direct and participate in the data gathering, data mining, and data processing processes at scale; creating appropriate data models.
  • Explore, promote, and implement data capabilities through analysis and machine learning techniques.
  • Lead the definition of requirements and scope of data analyses, presenting and reporting possible business and engine health insights to management.
  • Lead development and deployment of engine health analytics into enterprise commercial platforms.
  • Research, improvement, and validation of data model optimization and algorithms to improve effectiveness and accuracy on engine data analyses.
  • Support Caterpillar LPSD Engineering and product support initiatives


Education and Experience Requirement:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
  • Demonstrated engine knowledge
  • Applied analysis experience
  • Leadership and/or project management
  • Communication skills.


Skills you will have:
  • Business Statistics: Extensive experience and knowledge of the statistical tools, processes, and practices to describe business results in measurable scales; ability to use statistical tools and processes to assist in making business decisions.
  • Accuracy and Attention to Detail: Extensive experience and understanding the necessity and value of accuracy; ability to complete tasks with high levels of precision.
  • Programming Languages: Working knowledge of basic concepts and capabilities of programming; ability to use tools, techniques and platforms in order to write and modify programming languages.
  • Domain Knowledge: Working knowledge of a specific domain, its current trends, directions, and regulatory considerations; ability to apply domain-specific knowledge to relevant situations.   • Technical Analysis: Working knowledge of the concepts, methodologies, and activities in technical analysis; ability to forecast the direction of technical landscape using technical indicators and take collective actions.
  • Analytical Thinking: Extensive experience and knowledge of techniques and tools that promote effective analysis; ability to determine the root cause of organizational problems and create alternative solutions that resolve these problems.
  • Decision Making and Critical Thinking: Extensive experience and knowledge of the decision-making process and associated tools and techniques; ability to accurately analyze situations and reach productive decisions based on informed judgment.
  • Effective Communications: Working knowledge and understanding of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviors.
  • Technical Excellence: Extensive experience and knowledge of a given technology and various application methods; ability to develop and provide solutions to significant technical challenges.
  • Requirements Analysis: Working knowledge of tools, methods, and techniques of requirement analysis; ability to elicit, analyze and record required business functionality and non-functionality requirements to ensure the success of a system or software development project.


Top Candidates Will Have:
  • Engine system or component engineering experience
  • Coding experience with Python and/or SQL
  • General understanding of artificial intelligence (AI) concepts and their potential impact on business processes.
  • Machine Learning and the principles, technologies and algorithms of machine learning; ability to develop, implement and deliver related systems, products and services.
  • Proficient with PowerBi, Tableau or other data visualization software.

Summary Pay Range:

$128,470.00 - $192,710.00

Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
