Le procédé ELYSIS élimine l'utilisation d'anodes de carbone, en les remplaçant par des matériaux brevetés. En tant que premier procédé industriel qui émet de l'oxygène comme sous-produit, il a le potentiel de transformer toute l'industrie.

En 2018, deux producteurs d'aluminium de calibre international, Alcoa et Rio Tinto, ont uni leurs forces afin de créer la coentreprise ELYSIS avec le gouvernement du Québec. Bénéficiant du soutien du gouvernement du Canada et d'Apple, la technologie progresse et elle est actuellement conçue pour être utilisée aussi bien dans des projets de construction que de modernisation d'alumineries.

À propos du poste:
En tant que Spécialiste en technologie d'électrolyse, vous aurez l'occasion de démontrer votre esprit d'innovation en développant de nouvelles idées et concepts afin de créer de nouvelles opportunités pour ELYSIS. Relevant du Responsable de la technologie d'électrolyse, vous serez responsable de faire progresser le niveau de maturité de la technologie d'électrolyse ELYSIS.

Principales activités et responsabilités :
Le spécialiste travaillera en étroite collaboration avec les équipes d'ELYSIS des secteurs Technologie, Industrialisation et Opérations pour concrétiser les concepts. Vous ferez partie d'une équipe responsable des activités de développement technologique, tout en explorant des opportunités d'amélioration des systèmes et technologies existants.

• Appliquer les principes de Santé, Sécurité et Environnement (SSE) de l'organisation en adoptant une attitude positive zéro par choix;
• Faire progresser le niveau de maturité technologique (TRL) de la technologie d'électrolyse ELYSIS en collaboration avec les équipes de modélisation avancée, de recherche fondamentale et d'opérations pilotes
• Identifier et développer des solutions innovantes et participer activement à l'évaluation des options stratégiques et à l'analyse des écarts techniques
• Développer et mettre en œuvre un portefeuille de projets d'électrolyse, définir des objectifs clairs avec des retombées économiques (coûts d'exploitation et d'investissement), suivre les indicateurs de performance (portée, échéancier, budget) et diriger des initiatives innovantes
• Assurer la coordination et l'alignement entre les objectifs de modélisation, d'expérimentation fondamentale, d'essais en laboratoire et en cuve, autopsies, etc., et promouvoir la collaboration interservices
• Élaborer des plans d'essais pour différentes plateformes en cohérence avec leurs objectifs et leur intégration à la feuille de route
• Assurer l'exécution des projets selon la feuille de route en collaboration avec les équipes d'opérations d'électrolyse (internes et/ou clients)
• Encadrer les ingénieurs des opérations afin de favoriser une culture basée sur les données et la méthode scientifique
• Identifier et faire évoluer les besoins analytiques pour la montée en échelle de la technologie ELYSIS et contribuer à la gestion des changements analytiques
• Favoriser des relations collaboratives entre les départements Opérations, Industrialisation et Technologie afin d'optimiser l'efficacité et accélérer le déploiement technologique
• Adapter et améliorer les solutions technologiques selon les résultats afin d'atteindre les objectifs de la feuille de route
• Promouvoir une culture d'innovation et assurer la réussite de la feuille de route technologique d'ELYSIS

À propos de vous :

• Baccalauréat en génie chimique, électrochimie, science et génie des matériaux, métallurgie ou équivalent
• Expérience en gestion de projet ou responsabilités similaires
• Minimum de 5 ans d'expérience en R&D, idéalement dans le domaine de la fusion
• Capacité à présenter et vulgariser des concepts techniques
• Maîtrise de logiciels scientifiques, statistiques ou de planification spécialisés (ex. : MS Project, FactSage, JMP)
• Capacité à influencer sans autorité hiérarchique directe
• Vision stratégique, excellente écoute, compréhension des enjeux et capacité à identifier des opportunités
• Bonne compréhension des principes fondamentaux en électrochimie et science des matériaux
• Excellentes compétences interpersonnelles et en communication
• Solides compétences en organisation et documentation
• Esprit d'équipe et bonne capacité de collaboration
• Passion pour la résolution de défis techniques complexes afin de faire progresser une innovation majeure dans la lutte contre les changements climatiques
• Maîtrise du français et de l'anglais, tant à l'oral qu'à l'écrit. Notre organisation est une entreprise mondiale et les fonctions de ce poste nécessitent une collaboration quotidienne avec des collègues, des équipes ou des partenaires basés à l'extérieur du Québec

ELYSIS - Smelting Technology Specialist

The ELYSIS process eliminates the use of carbon anodes, replacing those with proprietary materials. It is the first industrial process that emits oxygen as its by-product and has the potential to transform an entire industry.

In 2018, two international aluminium producers, Alcoa and Rio Tinto, came together to form the ELYSIS joint venture with the provincial government of Québec. With support from the Canadian Government and Apple, the technology is progressing and is currently being designed to support the construction of new smelters or retrofits.

About the position:
As a Smelting Technology Specialist, you will have the opportunity to demonstrate your innovative thinking by developing new ideas and concepts to help frame them into new opportunities at ELYSIS. Reporting to the Smelting Technology Leader; you will be responsible for advancing the ELYSIS electrolysis technology maturity.

Key Activities / Responsibilities:
The Smelting Technology Specialist will be responsible for working closely with ELYSIS teams within the sectors of Technology, Industrialization and Operations to bring concepts to life. You will be part of a team leading the technology development activities and consider future opportunities to improve on existing systems and technologies.

• Apply the organization's Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) principles by adopting a positive attitude that us zero by choice
• Advance the technology readiness level (TRL)of the ELYSIS electrolysis technology in collaboration with the advanced modeling and fundamental research teams, and pilot operations teams
• Identify and develop innovative solutions and participate actively in the option evaluation for the technology development strategy and the gap analysis of the technical solutions
• Develop and implement a portfolio of electrolysis projects, define clear objectives with economic outcomes including operational/capital costs, monitor KPIs (including scope, schedule and budget) and lead innovative efforts to advance technological solutions
• Ensure coordination and alignment between modeling, fundamental experimentation, lab and cell experimentation objectives, autopsies, etc. and promote collaboration throughout the different departments
• Develop test plans for the different platforms aligned with their objectives and roadmap integration
• Ensure project execution as planned/defined in the roadmap in collaboration with electrolysis operations team (internal and/or client(s))
• Mentor the Operations engineers to promote a data driven culture using the scientific method
• Identify and evolve the analytical needs for the ELYSIS electrolysis scale-up and implementation and help maintain control over analytical change
• Foster collaborative relationships within Operations, Industrialization and Technology departments to ensure optimal efficiency and accelerate technological deployment
• Adapt and modify technological solutions based on results to meet roadmap objectives
• Drive a culture of innovation, ensuring the successful execution of ELYSIS's technology roadmap and breakthrough advancements

About you:
To perform well in this role and contribute to our ongoing success, we are looking for the following profile:

• Bachelor's degree in chemical engineering, Electrochemistry, Materials science & Engineering, Metallurgy or equivalent
• Experience in Project Management or similar responsibilities
• Minimum 5 years' experience in R&D related activities and environment, smelting preferred
• Able to present well and ability to teach and explain technical contents and concepts
• Aptitude in using specialized scientific, statistical or planning softwares (MS Projects, FactSage, JMP, for example)
• Ability to influence without having direct authority or direct reporting arrangements
• Be a visionary, be able to listen well, to understand challenges, and identify opportunities others cannot see
• Understand the fundamental electrochemical and material science
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• Strong organizational and documentation skills
• Enthusiastic team player/good collaborator
• Passion for solving difficult technical challenges to advance a breakthrough innovation to mitigate the climate crisis in a difficult to abate industry
• Bilingual in French and English, both written and spoken. Our organization is a global enterprise, and the duties of this position require daily collaboration with colleagues, teams or partners based outside Quebec.
