Air Force Civilian Service is currently seeking a full-time Electronics Engineer to work in the Air Force Nuclear Weapons Center, Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) Systems Directorate (NI), Sentinel Software Office (NIXW) at Hill Air Force Base in Layton, UT. The engineer will work closely with Sentinel's Systems Integration Office (NIX-SI).
This position (986702) is an NH-0855-03, which has a typical 2026 salary range of $89,508 - $138,370.

The primary purpose of this Engineer position is to serve as a primary representative of Sentinel's program office within the Software Integration and Test group, ensuring Government and industry standards are addressed in all phases of Sentinel's software design and code. Sentinel's software branch manages the software development lifecycle, software architecture, software engineering, and development policies; while providing testing support for the ICBM modernization program. We drive enterprise-wide safe, secure, reliable, and certifiable software, delivered on or ahead of schedule that meets the contract and customer requirements.
DUTIES:
• Utilizes computer science or engineering skills to develop and deliver safe, secure, reliable, and certifiable software.
• Performs technical design and reviews, and address issues with software deliveries from contractors.
o Includes working knowledge of engineering and system standards (ex. IEEE, Mil-STDs) and Air Force Instructions
o Includes working knowledge of system level documents (ex. SOW, SDP, SMP etc.) sections dealing with software.
• Generates and executes technical plans and requirements management.
• Researches and responds to software architecture technical design and implementation questions.
• Applies Digital Engineering (DE) principles and achieve authoritative virtualization to replace, automate, or shorten real-world prototyping and testing, to provide unprecedented speed and agility for the Air Force nuclear program.
• Coordinates with government and contractor stakeholders as part of an Agile software development enterprise.
• Analyzes, evaluates, and reports on software test data and metrics.
SKILLS:
• Positions at this level typically have 3 or more years of relevant engineering experience.
• Strong technical skills in engineering and software systems, sufficient to serve as a subject matter expert and able to identify technical gaps and deficiencies in contractor deliverables requiring attention for the next iteration.
• Leadership and mentoring skills to guide and develop team members across the Sentinel Systems Division in pursuit of program objectives and milestones are strongly preferred.
• Depth of experience in integrating systems engineering efforts from multiple teams within an enterprise is highly valued.
• Breadth of engineering experience.
• Skill in coding/developing software for either large enterprise information systems or complex electrical mechanical systems using contemporary software languages (e.g. C/C++, Python, Rust, GO, JavaScript, C#, Java, etc.).
• Experience with software test design and result analysis.
