This position can be based out of Grand Rapids or Northville.As NTH continues to grow, we are looking to hire a Renewables Design Engineer as a key position in our newly formed Electrical Engineering Division, to help us build capability in this important market. With offices in Northville, Detroit, East Lansing, Grand Rapids, and a lab and equipment office in Livonia, we are positioned to expand our services and client portfolio to align with the company's strategic plan.
How You Will Make An Impact- Prepare and review contract documents, designs, and specifications for electrical power projects with an intended focus on renewable energy and electrical substation designs.
- Integrate BESS, PV systems, Inverters, and Plant Controllers into cohesive power systems.
- Prepare technical proposals, cost estimates, plans, technical specifications, and reports, including day to day correspondence.
- Size, specify, and review approvals for a variety of electrical equipment.
- Perform a variety of engineering analyses, calculations, and modeling with and without the use of engineering software including Load flow, voltage drop, short circuit, protection coordination, arc flash, and grounding.
- Work closely and coordinate design with a multi-disciplinary team of engineers.
- Professionally interface and communicate with project stakeholders and support NTH leadership in building lasting relationships with customers.
- Work safely and professionally on construction sites, performing review, testing, and commissioning activities.

What You Bring to The Team- Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology from a 4-year accredited college or university. Study concentration in electric power or renewable energy preferred.
- Successful completion of Fundamentals of Engineering exam or EIT strongly preferred.
- Professional Registration or ability to attain professional registration in the State of Michigan within 12 months preferred.
- 2+ years of demonstrated solar energy and/or Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) electrical design experience including electrical layout, equipment specification, cable sizing & voltage drop, MV collection, or grid interconnect.
- Ability to support electrical package deliverables development with minimal oversight including one-lines, schematics, protection schemes, cable and conduit layouts, equipment layouts, grounding, BOMs, and studies.
- Ability to understand, read, and prepare design drawings and specifications for electrical power projects with a focus on renewable energy generation or substation design.
- ETAP or SKM Power Tools experience preferred.
- AutoCAD proficiency preferred.
- Previous experience with an engineering consulting firm preferred.
- PVsyst experience a plus
- Strong written and oral communication skills, ability to work in a team environment as well as independently, demonstrated team-oriented approach to problem-solving, and strong interpersonal skills for contact with clients and fellow engineers/technicians.
- Accuracy, dependability, and strong organizational skills
- The ability to manage multiple assignments at any given time, delegate tasks and assignments, and have ability to work in a team environment.
- Must be able to lift and carry equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.
- May be required to perform job duties in the field and office, during non-standard work hours, as necessary.
- Must hold a valid driver's license and be willing to travel to and conduct field work at job sites/offices in Michigan.
