Definition:
Conduct inspections of complex electrical and building systems at various stages of
construction, alteration, and repair to ensure compliance with codes, plans, specifications, and
department regulations. Complete plan reviews as needed.
Principal Duties:
The following statements are illustrative of the essential functions of the job and do not include
other nonessential or peripheral duties that may be required. The City of Longmont retains the

• Coordinate with Chief Building Official on problematic inspections that may receive time
delay complaints from customers, in order to mediate and solve problems in the field
that may delay a building inspection approvals.
• Provide code information that may require research or coordination with supervisor or
other staff to ensure that customers receive accurate and timely answers in the field to
code queries while providing fair and consistent interpretations.
• Provide consistent inspection records by ensuring all inspections are properly resulted
into inspection software after inspections are performed.
• Schedule and make field inspections of industrial, commercial, and residential buildings
electrical systems during various stages of construction and remodeling to assure
compliance with applicable codes and regulations of City, County, State, and Federal
agencies.
• Interpret codes and ordinances and respond to a variety of questions and complaints
from engineers, architects, contractors, and the general public relative to inspection
activities and the acceptability of plans and specifications.
• Make field inspections of electrical and life safety systems to determine compliance with
codes.
• Coordinate inspection activities with other City departments.
• Assure proper and safe installations of electrical systems.
• Perform comprehensive and detailed reviews of plans and specifications.
• Explain and interpret requirements and restrictions to architects, engineers, contractors,
and the public.
• Complete and maintain a variety of records, reports, documents, and correspondence
related to field inspections.
• Conduct research necessary to advise the Chief Building Official in the revision or
adoption of local codes and ordinances.
• Conduct research necessary to advise the Chief Building Official on the acceptance or
rejection of alternative materials for electrical installations.
• Provide consistently professional and responsive customer service.

Working Environment:
Ability to work in environmental conditions which may include excessive noise, dust, silica,
possible intermittent exposure to asbestos, fumes, smoke or gases, solvents, grease, and oils,
radiant energy, electrical energy, slippery or uneven walking surfaces, and protracted or irregular
hours of work. Ability to read, see, hear, write, transport loads of approximately 45 pounds,
climb, and move around construction sites, often during hazardous conditions. The candidate
for this position must be able to meet the physical requirements necessary to do the job.
Qualifications:
Any combination of experience and education equivalent to an Associate's Degree with major
course work in construction, architecture, electrical systems and building inspection and three
years of experience as a journey-level electrical foreman.
Special Qualifications: Possession of a valid Colorado Driver's License. Possession of a Journey
or Master's Electrical License from the State of Colorado. Possession of other ICC Certifications
desired. Basic English/Spanish bilingual proficiency desired.
