Position Overview

Novelis Oswego has a great opportunity for an Electrical Engineer! The Electrical Engineer is responsible for providing leadership, direction and support in the design and maintenance of Electrical Automation systems, high voltage - medium voltage switchyards and controls. The incumbent provides expertise and directs the activities of others engaged in activities related to electrical engineering, reliability/maintenance, automation, and controls to achieve overall plant goals relating to quality, throughput, and efficiency.

Responsibilities
  • Responsible for selection of electrical equipment and coordination of the completion of electrical layout drawings, cable sizing and selection, routing and schedule drawings as required to complete the defined project
  • Maintain high / medium voltage power to the facility
  • Annual substation maintenance
  • Transformer maintenance, testing, oil samples, DC control power battery maintenance
  • Improve site power distribution interconnecting substations and primary switchgears/ MV switchgear lineups
  • Plan/Coordinate plant power outages and yearly preventive maintenance – collaborate with Sithe and National Grid
  • Maintain plant power distribution drawings
  • Oversee power distribution upgrades and design modifications, including power studies and updating arcflash ratings for switchgears, unit substations, and MCCs. Manage capital improvement projects by developing scopes of work, timelines, and required resources.
  • Stand by generator preventive maintenance and install transfer switches to streamline plant outages
  • Maintain electrical components on plant air compressors and air dryers
  • Update critical spares and electrical components
  • Coordinate with procurement on material purchases and bid packages
  • Support manufacturing units with capital projects understanding load studies for future improvements
  • Complete the equipment location plans, cable tray routing and loading, build and shelter electrical layouts and details
  • Responsible for instrument and control device selection, sizing, and specification as required for the defined projects
  • Complete instrument location plans, building and shelter instrument layouts, instrument installation details, and related drawings as required by the defined project
  • Responsible for specifications process controls systems and detail hardware required for the plant control system including panel layout and design, PLC hardware, Allen Bradley, or Siemens controls
  • Prepare input/output listing from project documents for detailing the hardware and coordinating with the plant designs including preparation of panels and control stations
  • Trouble shooting automation control problems and improve system performance in manufacturing environment
  • Work with contractors on project specification, control plan, system testing and commissioning
  • Electrical safety program owner
  • Adhere to and support company quality, environmental, health & safety, and certification standards, including ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015, ISO 45001:2018, IATF 16949:2016, and ASI Certifications, where applicable.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Minimum five years of experience as Electrical Engineer or Control/Systems Engineer
  • Experience must include developing scope of work using P&ID's, specifications, and project requirements to specify and complete the electrical, instrument, and control systems
  • Experience with electrical control system programming with PLC brands (i.e. Siemens, Modicon, Allen-Bradley, and Rockwell)
  • Project experience with HMI products (i.e. WinCC Flexible, RSView and InTouch)
  • Must also have experience with AC/DC motor drives; electrical AUTOCAD; and electrical and control system commissioning and maintenance in metal industry
Preferred Qualifications
  • High/medium voltage experience

This roles salary starts from $107,200 per year. Individual pay will vary based on qualifications, experience, and performance. In addition to base salary, this position includes participation in a short-term incentive plan (Annual Incentive Plan - AIP or Plant Performance incentive - PPI).
