Full Job Description
Reporting to the Senior Director, Engineering and Maintenance, the Electrical Engineer will provide support across a variety of functional groups by providing innovative solutions that assure adherence to best practice, sustained reliability and continuous improvement. They will perform risk assessments and ensure compliance with safety standards and electrical engineering codes. They will also lead Electrical Engineering Projects which will involve design, installation and reliability. Verification and validation of existing electrical equipment, systems and process controls, including inventory management and preventative maintenance.

Compensation Range: $85,000.00 - $100,000.00

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Review and recommend improvements to electrical systems as part of our continuous improvement efforts.
    • Spearheads continuous improvement initiatives through the implementation of new equipment technologies and review of set processes
    • Travel to our different facilities to review existing process and improvement initiatives.
  • Keeps equipment operational by following manufacturer's instructions and established procedures with the overall goal of minimizing unexpected downtime.
    • Oversee motors, MCC's and Multilin in the company, work on motor optimization to improve their performance;
    • Read and provide comments on PLC code, specifically RSLogix (Allen Bradley 5000), ladder logic
  • Investigates equipment failures and unexpected breakdowns, provides corrective actions to improve reliability and performance of electrical systems.
    • Occasionally attend to electrical emergency situations which may occur outside regular working hours
    • Conduct operational process analysis and/or equipment analysis to support problem resolutions and operational efficiencies
  • Performs administrative functions including but not limited to creating and/or revising electrical maintenance procedures, sourcing parts and/or services.
    • Develop, implement and oversee electrical spare parts inventory, source parts as required;
    • Works in coordination with Engineering Manager to prepare department budgets, and or contracts for capital expenditures or services
    • Complete project feasibility and cost benefit analysis for large capital projects over $1M
    • Key member of project management / implementation team
    • Manage the inspection and maintenance of high voltage systems across yards


Position Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering
  • 3-5 years working in an electrical engineer role
  • Preferred, P. Eng designation
  • Skilled at reading and drawing single line diagrams
  • Expertise in design and visualizations software such as AutoCAD
  • Knowledge of reading and writing PLC code to be able to troubleshoot and understand the flow of a system
  • Understanding of electrical engineering codes and safety standards
  • Deep knowledge of electrical equipment operation
  • Inspect installations and observe operations to ensure compliance with design and equipment specifications and safety standards
  • Able to problem solve and troubleshoot as the need arises
  • Ability to investigate existing equipment and operation status and determine improvement opportunities and operational efficiencies
  • Proven experience preparing and managing budgets and contracts
  • Lifting and moving of large objects or samples (Approx. 25lbs)
  • Able to provide guidance to team members about electrical safety, systems, and troubleshooting techniques
