Electrical Engineer III
$94,000 - $117,000 | Hybrid with in-person reporting to Duluth, MN.

Minnesota Power needs an Electrical Engineer III (Controls) to apply their advanced technical expertise to our most complex substation projects from greenfield sites to critical system upgrades that will serve our region for decades.

In this advanced engineering role, you'll be a technical expert on medium to extra high voltage control systems, making key decisions and driving quality, safety, and reliability for our customers.

What You'll Bring
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from an ABET EAC accredited program required.
  • Fifteen years or more of related engineering experience OR four years or more of related engineering experience PLUS a Professional Engineer (PE) license in the United States with the ability to become registered in MN, WI, and ND within 6 months.
  • A master's degree in engineering may be equivalent for up to one year of related engineering experience.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
  • Requires high level of interpersonal and communication skills to establish and maintain positive and productive working relationships.
  • This position may be subject to assessment of skills, job match and/or aptitude.

What You'll Do
  • Control design for substation projects from concept to completion, ensuring technical excellence, safety, and regulatory compliance.
  • Design substation control systems, including one-line diagrams, schematics, and necessary calculations.
  • Act as the technical expert for MV, HV, and EHV control systems and SCADA, providing guidance to internal teams, consultants, and vendors.
  • Review others work and PE stamp designs and specifications if you're a licensed PE.
  • Scope definition, estimating, equipment procurement.
  • Resolve complex substation design challenges and apply standards such as NEC, NESC, IEEE, and NERC CIP.
  • Drive technological innovation and establish control design standards that shape Minnesota Power's future.

The expected annual compensation range for this position is $94,000 - $117,000. Compensation offered to the selected candidate will vary depending on relevant knowledge, skills, training, experience, and market conditions. Additionally, this position qualifies for a comprehensive benefits package, including an Incentive Program, Retirement Benefits, Medical, Dental & Vision Plans, Health Savings Account, Flexible Spending Account, Life Insurance, Disability, Tuition Reimbursement, Voluntary Benefits, Paid Absences, and more.
