Purpose of the PositionThe Electrical Design Engineer will support the development of electronic products for Kistler's sensor and instrumentation portfolio. This role is focused on electrical design, schematic capture, PCB layout, prototype development, and testing using Altium Designer. The engineer will work closely with cross-functional teams to bring new products from concept through production.
Primary ResponsibilitiesElectrical Design & PCB Development- Create and maintain electronic schematics using Altium Designer.
- Design and update printed circuit board (PCB) layouts for analog, digital, and mixed-signal products.
- Assist in component selection, bill of materials (BOM) creation, and manufacturing documentation.
- Support circuit simulation, analysis, and design verification activities.
- Participate in PCB bring-up, debugging, troubleshooting, and validation testing.
- Learn and apply best practices for grounding, shielding, signal integrity, and EMC-aware PCB design.
- Collaborate with manufacturing and suppliers to support prototype and production builds.
Testing & Product Development- Conduct laboratory testing and evaluation of electronic circuits and assemblies.
- Document test results and support root-cause investigations.
- Assist with product verification and reliability testing.
- Support compliance activities related to CE, RoHS, REACH, and related standards.
Collaboration- Work closely with mechanical, firmware, software, manufacturing, and product management teams.
- Participate in design reviews and product development activities.
- Help improve existing products and support new product introduction efforts.
QualificationsRequired- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related engineering discipline.
- 1-3 years of experience, internship, co-op, or project experience in electronic product development.
- Experience with Altium Designer for schematic capture and PCB layout, including academic or professional projects.
- Understanding of analog and digital circuit fundamentals.
- Ability to read schematics, troubleshoot circuits, and use standard laboratory equipment.
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
Preferred- Experience with sensor systems, instrumentation, embedded electronics, or data acquisition hardware.
- Familiarity with PCB manufacturing and assembly processes.
- Exposure to compliance standards such as CE, RoHS, or EMC testing.
- Experience with LabVIEW or TestStand is a plus.
