Full Job Description
We are looking for an Electric Propulsion Motor Lead to join our team. The goal of an Electric Propulsion Motor Lead at Wisk is to ensure that the electric motor systems are designed, tested, and integrated successfully for our autonomous EVTOL aircraft. You will be part of the Propulsion Integrated Product Team that develops safe, efficient and reliable electric powertrains.

In this role you will lead the engineering efforts for our advanced electric propulsion motors from concept through certification. You will guide a team of talented engineers in designing high-performance, lightweight, and reliable motor systems. You will have a solid understanding of mechanical design, electromagnetic design and thermal considerations. Your work will directly impact the safety and efficiency of our aircraft. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including battery, avionics, and flight controls, to ensure seamless integration. Finally, you will oversee testing, validation, and continuous improvement of the motor design.

This is a hybrid work opportunity. At Wisk, this means working onsite at our Mountain View office 3 days per week with flexibility for the remainder of the days.

Responsibilities
  • As part of the Propulsion IPT, you will act as an Electric Propulsion Motor Lead for a novel type of aircraft development targeting the autonomous UAM market.
  • You will support the motor engineering team by providing technical guidance, mentoring engineers, and driving the successful delivery of electric motor units.
  • You will help support problem-solving activities related to thermal management, electromagnetic interference, and weight optimization for current unachieved design milestones.
  • In some areas, you will be working closely with the Powertrain and Flight Controls teams to ensure seamless system integration and optimal aircraft performance.
  • As an Electric Propulsion Motor Lead, you will help define the technical roadmap, performance specifications, and certification strategies for our electric motors.


Requirements
  • B.S. or M.S. in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a relevant engineering discipline with at least 12 years of experience in the design, development, and testing of high-power electric motors.
  • You have worked in the aerospace, EV automotive, or advanced air mobility industries.
  • You have hands-on experience integrating complex, safety-critical electric propulsion systems and solving associated thermal and electromagnetic problems.
  • You have a deep and applied knowledge of complex motor topologies, electromagnetic analysis, and aerospace thermal management.
  • You have led teams whom achieved successful motor qualifications, product launches, or critical design reviews.
  • You are familiar with aerospace certification standards (e.g., DO-160, FAA Part 23/27) and motor control algorithms.
  • This role will require 10-15% of travel.


Job Type: Full-time

Pay range the company expects to pay: $186,000 - $233,000 per year - The starting base salary within this range for this role varies based on factors such as your geographical location, and your relevant job-related experience that is consistent with a business necessity.
