MIDDLE SCHOOL TEACHER

QUALIFICATIONS:

Holds or is eligible for a New Jersey Instructional Certificate with appropriate endorsement (i.e.: Elementary K-5 with Math/Language Arts Literacy/Science/Social Studies Specialization in grades 5-8; Teacher of Mathematics/Language Arts Literacy/Science/Social Studies; Teacher of Students with Disabilities or Teacher of the Handicapped).

REPORTS TO: Principal

JOB GOAL:

Instructs assigned pupils in accordance with curriculum adopted by the Board of Education.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Demonstrates competence in subject field(s) assigned and deemed highly qualified per standards established by NJDOE.
  1. Provides activities and experiences to meet the needs, interests and abilities of students.
  1. Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students.
  1. Employs instructional methods and materials that are most appropriate for meeting stated objectives.
  1. Assesses the academic and behavioral status of students on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required.
  1. Participates in identifying and meeting pupil needs in cooperation with other professional staff members.
  1. Establishes and maintains, with the support of administrators, standards of pupil behavior appropriate to the activity.
  1. Maintains professional competence through participation in inservice education activities provided by the district and/or self-selected professional growth activities.
  1. Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees as required.
  1. Prepares for classes assigned and develops general lesson plans related to established curriculum goals.
  1. Takes reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
  1. Maintains accurate and complete records as required by law, district policy and administrative regulations.
  1. Makes a reasonable effort to cooperate professionally with other members of the staff.
  1. Assists in the selection of books, equipment and other instructional materials.
  2. Satisfactorily fulfills duty assignments during the course of the school day as assigned.
  3. Works to establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and their parents concerning both the broad academic and behavioral progress of all assigned students.
  4. Establishes and maintains cooperative relations with others.
  5. Participates in professional growth through an ongoing program of reading, workshops, seminars, conferences, and/or advanced course work at institutions of higher learning.
  6. Performs such other tasks as may be from time to time assigned by the Principal or his/her Assistants within the scope of his/her employment and/or certification areas.

SALARY:

As per GTEA Contract

($64,290 - $109,356 per year. Final compensation will be based on experience and qualifications.)

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
10 month year

VACATION:
There is no vacation time allotted to this position.

EVALUATION:

Performance of job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.
