Job Description
The Iowa Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Division of State-Operated Specialty Care, Bureau of Independence Mental Health Institute (IMHI) is seeking an Education Administrator to join our team! This is a full-time position with a Monday - Friday, 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. schedule and opportunity for growth and development.

The Education Administrator oversees all academic programming within our year-round school serving youth in a psychiatric hospital setting. This position supervises educational staff, ensures compliance with state and federal requirements, and maintains high-quality learning environments that meet the unique needs of our students.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan, organize, direct, and evaluate academic programs to ensure consistent, needs-based educational services.
  • Develop and maintain curriculum aligned with credit standards; assess programs semi-annually and implement corrective action plans as needed.
  • Manage the academic budget, review and approve purchasing requests, and ensure compliance with procurement and grant requirements.
  • Conduct regular classroom visits to evaluate instruction, student engagement, and overall program impact.
  • Complete required state, federal, accreditation, and institutional reporting.
  • Ensure safety, cleanliness, and visual appeal of all instructional areas.
  • Collaborate with public schools on transcripts, student re-entry, and special services.
  • Coordinate with treatment teams to align academic and clinical objectives.
  • Supervise Educators and Education Aides, complete performance evaluations, manage staff leave, address disciplinary issues, and provide instructional coverage when needed.
  • Provide student counseling related to discipline, transcripts, and future educational planning.
  • Participate in assigned committees, interview prospective academic staff, attend annual training, and represent the institution at statewide education administrator meetings.

IMHI provides inpatient treatment and acute psychiatric services, includingindividualized treatment plans and support for children and adolescent patients to continue their education.
