Your Opportunity

We have an immediate opportunity for an Ecosystems Team Lead to join our dynamic Environmental Services team. The Ecosystems Team Lead will play an integral role on the Business Center's leadership team, using their skills to mentor and develop a highly capable, motivated team of environmental professionals while ensuring we consistently deliver results that exceed client expectations. The Team Lead is also expected to contribute to meaningful project work within their area of expertise.

The successful candidate will collaborate with existing Ecosystems Team Leads based in Alberta and Manitoba to support the collective management and growth of the team.

This position can be based at any of our office locations in Calgary, AB or Edmonton, AB.

Your Key Responsibilities

Leadership:
  • Manage the team's daily operational needs, including resourcing, utilization, and project/proposal assignments
  • Manage the development of the Ecosystems Environmental Services team
  • Supervise junior staff and support their career development
  • Facilitate and lead team meetings ensuring timely communication of changes to current practices
  • Support and promote the development of Stantec's safety culture within the team
  • Support team recognition and morale through local team initiatives
  • Assist in the development of quality standard operating procedures (SOPs)
  • Encourage a culture of innovation
  • Participate in the attraction, development, and retention of new and existing staff
  • Coach and mentor team members on a regular basis
  • Conduct performance reviews and provide ongoing feedback

Project Work:
  • Participating actively in team lead meetings, contributing insights and representing the Ecosystems team
  • Collaborating with the teams to drive new technical initiatives or service lines
  • Providing guidance and support on projects through roles such as subject matter expert or technical discipline lead
  • Liaising and providing communication for sector leads, sector representatives and project managers to resource proposals and project work
  • Developing proposals and submissions to support client projects
  • Creating technical reports as requested
  • Adhering to client and project deadlines by completing work in a timely manner
  • Assisting Ecology team with complex work where required


Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Experience
  • Demonstrated leadership experience and a strong commitment to Stantec's values, including inclusion and diversity
  • Experience in, or a solid understanding of, the consulting industry within a multidisciplinary environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proven ability to plan and execute projects with limited supervision
  • Valid driver's license and willingness to travel, as required, to meet with team members who may be based outside of your home location

Education and Qualifications

Bachelor's and/or master's degree in environmental or biological sciences.

Minimum 8 years of direct experience in Ecosystems related work in a lead or supporting role.

Primary experience in wildlife biology, vegetation ecology, or aquatic biology is considered an asset.

Our typical office environment involves working with computers and remaining relatively sedentary. Stantec offers a flexible work arrangement for desk-based tasks including working from Stantec office locations, working from home, or a mix depending on the situation. Field work may include exposure to inclement weather, and travel through rough and remote terrain, while carrying equipment.
