Job Description

The Role

As a Drive Quality Calibration and Toolchain Development Engineer, you will lead the development, enhancement, and deployment of toolbox-based workflows that enable high-quality transmission calibration and drive quality development. You will combine hands-on transmission experience with strong MATLAB-based tool development, data-driven methods, and machine learning techniques to optimize shift characteristics, pedal maps, and related controls. This role will also apply machine learning and advanced analytics to modeling and simulation workflows, enabling earlier virtual calibration, faster development loops, and improved customer-perceived vehicle performance.

What You'll Do
  • Develop and implement new features in the Drive Quality Development (DQDev) Toolbox, including transmission shift optimization, pedal map generation, calibration workflows, and data-driven modeling capabilities.
  • Maintain and update existing DQDev features and data to support new vehicle and transmission programs.
  • Develop and apply machine learning methods and techniques to modeling and simulation to support vehicle energy, propulsion and drive quality analyis
  • Create and refine methods and procedures for characterizing transmission hardware using dynamometer cells, enabling robust initial calibration sets.
  • Support Calibration Loading, Parameter Management, and Drive Quality integration to broader simulation toolchain.
  • Build and maintain data processing and analytics tools (MATLAB/Excel and other appropriate environments) to filter, analyze, transform, and model test data into actionable characterization and calibration inputs.
  • Develop predictive, surrogate, or pattern-recognition approaches that improve model fidelity, reduce manual tuning effort, and accelerate calibration decisions.
  • Lead roadmap and work-request meetings to outline, track, and prioritize DQDev enhancements, bug fixes, user requests, and advanced method development.
  • Support release planning and execution for the Drive Quality Toolbox, including documentation, validation, and user rollout.
  • Collaborate with Calibration, Drive Quality, Energy, Noise/Vibration, and modeling/simulation teams to ensure toolbox algorithms, machine learning methods, and outputs align with cross-functional requirements.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve user issues with DQDev and related toolchains, providing training, best practices, and user support as needed.

Additional Job Description:

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related technical field.
  • 5+ years of relevant experience in transmission development, calibration, or related driveline/vehicle controls domains.
  • Demonstrated experience developing or using MATLAB-based toolchains for calibration, data analysis, model-based development, or simulation workflow automation.
  • Hands-on experience creating calibration methods and initial transmission calibrations (e.g., 50% and 63% sets) for vehicle programs.
  • Proficiency with simulation, test, and calibration tools such as MATLAB, INCA, and Excel-based analysis tools.
  • Understanding of transmission hardware, vehicle powertrain behavior, and controls integration, including shift quality and pedal map design.
  • Proven ability to dissect, filter, and leverage test and dyno data to drive characterization, modeling, and calibration decisions.
  • Experience developing, applying, or supporting machine learning methods and techniques for engineering analysis, modeling, simulation, optimization, or data-driven decision-making.
  • Experience maintaining constraints, logic, and outputs within a structured toolbox environment (e.g., DQDev).
  • Strong organizational and communication skills with demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional discussions and prioritize tool development work.
  • Interest in developing tools, models, and processes that improve organizational effectiveness, shorten development loops, and enhance drive quality.
