Summary of Position

We are currently seeking an experienced Drafting Manager to lead and develop CCI's drafting services team across Canadian operations. Working in collaboration with project managers, engineers, and technical specialists, the Drafting Manager will oversee drafting resources, establish and maintain drafting standards, ensure quality deliverables, and support project execution across a diverse portfolio of trenchless, pipeline, utility, and infrastructure projects.

The successful candidate will provide technical leadership, mentor and develop drafting staff, coordinate workload and resource planning, and drive continuous improvement initiatives within the drafting group. This role combines people leadership, operational management, and technical drafting expertise.

Accountabilities
  • Lead the planning, allocation, utilization, and scheduling of drafting resources across multiple projects and business units to support project deliverables, client commitments, and business priorities.
  • Mentor, coach, and conduct performance reviews for drafting staff, supporting career development and succession planning.
  • Participate in recruiting, interviewing, onboarding, and retention of drafting personnel.
  • Identify opportunities to improve drafting workflows, productivity, quality, and technology utilization.
  • Evaluate and implement new drafting, modeling, visualization, and automation tools to improve team efficiency.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to CAD operators, technologists, engineers, and project managers.
  • Communicate and coordinate with the design teams for the development of design drawings and packages.
  • Develop, maintain, and enforce drafting standards, procedures, and QA/QC processes to ensure compliance with CCI and client requirements.
  • Oversee the production, review, and revision of drawing packages and 3D models to ensure accuracy, quality, and compliance with project requirements.
  • Utilize databases, internal networks, and other information sources to ensure project deliverables incorporate all relevant data.
  • Stay up to date with industry trends and advancements in CAD technology.
  • Source external data sets, such as LiDAR surface data, public utility data, and imagery as needed.


Required Qualifications
  • Technical degree/diploma in Engineering Design and Drafting Technology, or a related discipline.
  • A minimum of ten (10) years of CAD experience with progressively increasing technical and leadership responsibilities.
  • Minimum 3 to 5 years of leadership or supervisory experience managing personnel, including mentoring, performance management, and workload planning.
  • Excellent working knowledge of AutoCAD and Civil 3D. Experience with Plant 3D and other applications (i.e. Google Earth, ArcGIS, AutoCAD Map 3D, Global Mapper, etc.) would be considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of tools and drafting to complete 2D and 3D model development.
  • Experience supporting trenchless, pipeline, and utility infrastructure projects is strongly preferred. Experience with HDD, DSPT, tunneling, and conventional bore design would be considered a significant asset.
  • Experience working with geospatial datasets including LiDAR, DEMs, satellite imagery, coordinate systems, projections, and GIS software is required.
  • Working knowledge of Autodesk 3ds Max or other visualization software.
  • Experience preparing plan & profile drawings.
  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Highly self-motivated with the ability to work under pressure individually and with colleagues to meet deadlines.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a collaborative leadership style, commitment to mentorship, and a growth mindset.
  • Experience with CAD automation, scripting, or workflow optimization tools would be considered an asset.
