Position Overview

Under general direction, the Corrections Identification Supervisor plans, directs, and coordinates the operation of a photographic and fingerprint identification program at a DOC Correctional Facility. This position supervises staff in the maintenance and operation of the identification programs for both employees and individuals in custody, and requisitions necessary materials and supplies. Essential Functions

  • Supervises staff.
  • Directs the fingerprinting of individuals in custody.
  • Monitors all photographic work within the Photo ID program.
  • Photographs and fingerprints all new employees and maintains that their files are up to date.
  • Confers with Bureau of Identification, Federal Bureau of Investigation and other government agencies.
  • Escorts individuals in custody to and from various work assignments.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years high school.
  • Requires completion of an approved training program in the taking and classification of fingerprints.
  • Requires three (3) years of experience in fingerprint identification work involving classifying, searching, filing, and making identification of fingerprints.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Prefers at least four (4) years of experience methods and techniques in fingerprint capturing and comparison.
  • Prefers at least four (4) years of experience working in a correctional setting.
  • Prefers at least three (3) years of experience instructing, training, and supervising others in fingerprint capturing and comparing identification procedures.
  • Prefers at least three (3) years of experience preparing reports of unusual happenings, accidents or violations of rules by employees, residents, or wards, and operational reports.
  • Prefers at least four (4) years of experience enforcing disciplinary, safety, security and custodial measures for individual in custody control.
  • Prefers at least three (3) years of experience detecting minute differences in fingerprint records.


Conditions of Employment

  • Requires completion of an approved course in guard training within six months of employment.
  • Requires ability to think clearly and exercise forceful initiative in emergency situations.
  • Requires the ability to pass the IDOC/IDJJ background check.
  • Requires ability to pass a drug screen. The use of unauthorized drugs by an employee, regardless of position held, is prohibited.
  • Required to utilize digital technology, tools, platforms, and processes in managing and supporting various digital enhancements for greater efficiency, productivity, and digital transformation efforts within the department.
  • This position has been found to meet the requirements in section 4A-101 of the Illinois Governmental Ethics Act requiring the occupant/employee to file a Statement of Economic Interest. The Illinois Governmental Ethics Act (5 ILCS 420/4A et seq.) requires certain state officials and employees to file annual Statements of Economic Interest with the Office of the Secretary of State that will be made available for examination and copying by the public. All employees required to file a Statement of Economic Interest are also required to file the Supplemental Statement of Economic Interest with the Executive Ethics Commission. (See Executive Order 15-09) Fines and penalties apply to untimely filings.
