Position Overview

The Department is seeking a well-qualified individual to serve as Stationary Engineer-Chief at Danville Correctional Center. The ideal candidate will work to ensure that the staff supervised provide proficient and timely attention to the maintenance operational needs of the facility. Preparation of various reports will require attention to accuracy and detail, and the candidate will be essential in overseeing the needs and feasibility of major repairs or new construction at the facility. Essential Functions

• Manages and coordinates all phases of the physical operations at the facility.
• Serves as working supervisor.
• Plans the overall operation and maintenance of Danville's institutional heat plant, sewage system, water systems, institutional buildings, grounds, equipment and machinery.
• Advises institution administration of the need and feasibility of major repairs, new construction and large equipment purchases.
• Prepares maintenance cost reports, requisitions, monthly, semi-annual reports.
• Reviews and prepares purchase requests for replacement parts and supplies.
• Plans and coordinates vocational training in conjunction with respective section supervisors for individuals in custody assigned to the maintenance department.
• Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

• Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years of high school.
• Requires seven (7) years of experience in the operation of a commercial or institutional power plant or as a skilled craftsman in the mechanical or building trades.

Preferred Qualifications

• Prefers at least six (6) years of experience working with the principles, practices and methods used in operating high-pressure coal, gas or oil fired boilers and appurtenances.
• Prefers at least six (6) years of experience working with steam engineering, electrical generation and distribution.
• Prefers at least six (6) years of experience working with refrigeration and air conditioning apparatus.
• Prefers at least six (6) years of experience working in the repair and construction of buildings and equipment.
• Prefers at least six (6) years of experience working with the underlying principles of water and sewage treatment.
• Prefers at least six (6) years of experience working with the various chemicals used in boiler systems and other closed systems.
• Prefers at least six (6) years of experience working with public health regulations and building codes.
• Prefers at least six (6) years of experience diagnosing problems in mechanical, electrical, heating and air conditioning systems.
• Prefers at least six (6) years of experience recognizing potentially dangerous situations and to make appropriate emergency responses.
• Prefers completion of current OSHA 10 training or higher.

Conditions of Employment

• Requires ability to pass the IDOC/IDJJ background check.
• Requires ability to pass a drug screen. The use of unauthorized drugs by an employee, regardless of position held, is prohibited.
• This position has been found to meet the requirements in section 4A-101 of the Illinois Governmental Ethics Act requiring the occupant/employee to file a Statement of Economic Interest. The Illinois Governmental Ethics Act (5 ILCS 420/4A et seq.) requires certain state officials and employees to file annual Statements of Economic Interest with the Office of the Secretary of State that will be made available for examination and copying by the public. All employees required to file a Statement of Economic Interest are also required to file the Supplemental Statement of Economic Interest with the Executive Ethics Commission. (See Executive Order 15-09) Fines and penalties apply to untimely filings.
• Required to utilize digital technology, tools, platforms, and processes in managing and supporting various digital enhancements for greater efficiency, productivity, and digital transformation efforts within the department.
• Required to possess and maintain a valid active certificate as a Universal Technician under U.S.E.P.A. Section 608 rules.
• This position requires the ability to work at heights, including on ladders, scaffolding, aerial lifts, or elevated platforms, while adhering to all safety regulations and using appropriate fall protection measures.
