Job Description:
The District Area Manager provides day-to-day field leadership for the assigned portfolio of
projects. This position reports to the Regional Manager and is responsible for field-operations
support across all office locations and for the Project Managers assigned to the area. Through
direct supervision of Project Managers and oversight of Regional Supervisors, this position
handles daily field-construction communications and helps drive project delivery on schedule
and within budget while maintaining high safety and operational excellence.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in construction management or related field, or 15+ years related
experience.
10+ years of progressive leadership/management experience in utility, and/or construction.
Preferred Certifications:
• IMSA Level 2 Technician
• IMSA Signal Inspector
Skills & Competencies:
Field operations leadership with a proven record of directing Project Managers and holding
project teams and leaders accountable.
Strong analytical and critical thinking skills on live jobs, schedules, and production problems.
Proven ability to implement and improve field processes that drive consistent project delivery.
Effective communication with Regional Supervisors, Project Managers, Purchasing Manager,
Business Manager, and the Regional Manager.
Ability to manage day-to-day field requests, keep material and subcontractors on track, and
flag budget or schedule problems early.
Key Roles and Responsibilities:
The District Area Manager is expected to directly oversee field operations for the projects in
their portfolio. This role provides the Regional Manager with project status, updates, changes,
and potential cost impacts for high level decision making. With direct guidance from the
Regional Manager, this position implements, reviews, and improves field systems, processes,
and job-site practices. The District Area Manager drives a strong culture based on human
performance continuous improvement principles, protects employees, sub-contractors,
clients, and company assets, and delivers quality work. The roles and responsibilities below
highlight key specifics:
District Area Manager
• Handle day-to-day requests and communications related to field construction.
• Be proficient in project operations, direct assigned Project Managers, and give field
operation direction to Regional Supervisors so each office maintains operational
efficiency.
• Help ensure project delivery by directing Project Managers and working alongside
Regional Supervisors on plan, crew, sequence, and finish.
• Check that live projects are tracked within budget and flag overruns, underruns, and
other cost impacts to the Regional Manager.
• Review proposals, estimates, and change orders with the Estimating Team during bid
and review periods, providing field-operations input to support accurate pricing, project
planning, and successful execution.
• Work with the Purchasing Manager on submittal delivery and that material procurement
is confirmed and progressing accordingly with project schedule.
• Direct Project Managers so subcontractors stay in compliance, on schedule, and within
budget.
• Assess resource needs (personnel, equipment, material, etc.) with Regional
Supervisors and Project Managers, and coordinate gaps with the Regional Manager as
necessary.
• With Regional Project Management team, coordinate project operations, schedules,
forecast, etc.
• Advise Regional Supervisors and Project Managers on field issues across operations,
project management, quality, and safety. Report said issues to the Regional Manager.
• Evaluate signal and electrical training needs for General Foremen, Foremen, Traffic
Signal Installers, and other field-related positions, and coordinate that development
through the Regional Supervisor. Administrative and supervisory team training and
professional development remains with the Regional Manager.
• Evaluate all aspects of field operations, identify problem areas & make
recommendations for improvement.
