Summary:
The Director, Technology is responsible for developing and executing the dealership's technology strategy to drive customer productivity, safety, equipment utilization and profitability. This role serves as the technology business owner for the dealership leading the adoption and growth of Caterpillar technology solutions including Visionlink, Cat Grade, Detect, Payload, productivity, Command, Connectivity, Telematics, and emerging digital technologies

The Director will work cross functionally across Sales, Rental, Product Support, Marketing, Digital, Operations, and IT to ensure the successful deployment, training, support and growth of technology solutions throughout the dealer territory. The position will also maintain strategic relationships with Caterpillar, Trimble, and any other technology partners.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Leadership:
    • Develop and execute the dealer's technology growth strategy and annual business plan.
    • Establish technology-related revenue, adoption, and customer success objections.
    • Lead technology initiatives that improve customer productivity, safety, machine utilization, and operational efficiency.
    • Serve as the dealership's primary advocate for technology-driven business transformation.
    • Present technology performance, KPI's and strategic recommendations to executive and senior leadership.
  • Sales & Business Development:
    • Drive sales growth of Caterpillar technology products and services.
    • Support machine and aftermarket sales teams with technology expertise and solution selling.
    • Develop go-to-market strategies or technology-enabled offerings.
    • Collaborate with Major Accounts, Rental Product Support and Sales leadership to increase technology penetration.
    • Maintain relationships with Caterpillar technology organizations, Trimble, and other strategic partners.
    • Develop and implement predelivery expectations at all branches for incoming Cat Products where technology offerings apply.
  • Customer Adoption & Success:
    • Establish customer onboarding and utilization programs for technology products.
    • Monitor customer adoption rates and develop plans to increase engagement.
    • Ensure customers are realizing value from technology investments through measurable outcomes.
    • Lead customer demonstrations, training events, and executive-level technology discussions.
  • Products Support & Operations:
    • Develop processes for technology installation, activation, commissioning, and support.
    • Coordinate resources supporting integrated machine technologies and telematics solutions
    • Work with service operations to ensure technology support capabilities remain aligned with customer needs.
    • Create and maintain standard operating procedures for technology deployment and support.
  • Team Leadership:
    • Recruit, lead, coach, and develop technology specialists, trainers, and support personnel.
    • Establish accountability for performance, customer satisfaction, technology adoption, and financial objectives
    • Build a culture focused on customer success innovation, continuous improvement, and collaboration.
    • Partner with Sales, Rental and Product Support leadership to establish technology champions throughout the organization.
  • Performance Management:
    • Develop and track key performance indicators including: Technology revenue growth, VisionLink adoption, Cat Grade order rates, Subscription renewals, Customer utilization rates, Technology attachment rates, and Customer satisfaction metrics.
    • Monitor profitability and ROI of technology initiatives.
    • Provide regular reporting to dealership leadership and Caterpillar.

Minimum Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in business, Engineering, Construction Management, Information Technology, or related field required. MBA or advanced degree preferred.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in heavy equipment, construction technology, digital solutions, product support, equipment sales, or related industries.
  • Minimum 5 years of leadership or management experience.
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 50-60% of the time, including overnight travel as needed.
  • Experience with Caterpillar, SITECH, Trimble, Top Con, telematics, fleet management, or construction technology preferred.
  • Proven success developing and executing strategic business plans.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead organizational change initiatives.

Physical Requirements:
Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in an office setting; to stand or sit for prolonged periods; to occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist; to lift, carry, push, and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight; to operate office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination including use of a computer keyboard; and to verbally communicate to exchange information. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet in office settings and moderate to loud in other situations, with both constant and sudden loud noises possible.
