Position Purpose:We are seeking a Director, Technical Accounting and SEC Reporting. In this newly created position, which reports to the Vice President, Controller, you will oversee all aspects of the Company's technical accounting, SOX controls and external reporting activities within a publicly traded environment. This position ensures full compliance with U.S. GAAP and SEC regulations, leads the preparation and filing of all SEC reports, and provides authoritative guidance on complex accounting matters.
The Director serves as a key advisor to executive leadership and plays a critical role in maintaining the integrity, transparency, and accuracy of the Company's financial disclosures to investors, regulators, and external stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:- Act as the Company's subject matter expert on U.S. GAAP and SEC regulations
- Lead the accounting analysis of complex, non-routine, and material transactions
- Monitor FASB, SEC, and PCAOB developments and lead adoption and implementation of new standards
- Work with external consultants and advisors in preparing technical accounting memos
- Provide technical guidance to senior leadership and cross-functional partners
- Oversee preparation, review, and timely filing of all SEC reports
- Ensure accuracy and completeness of financial statements and footnotes, MD&A disclosures and earnings releases and supplemental materials
- Maintain compliance with SEC rules, Reg S-X, Reg S-K, and other disclosure requirements
- Evaluate emerging SEC disclosure trends and proactively enhance disclosures
- Serve as the primary liaison with external auditors on technical accounting and SEC reporting matters
- Prepare the Company for SOX 404B compliance related to financial reporting and disclosure controls
- Ensure the design, documentation, and operating effectiveness of key controls
- Partner with Internal Audit to address deficiencies and remediation plans
- Drive continuous improvement in control processes and documentation
Required Skills & Experience: - Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field required; CPA required
- 10+ years of progressive accounting experience
- Significant experience in Big Four public accounting or a large regional firm and/or public company environment
- Life sciences/biotech industry experience a plus
- Extensive hands-on experience with SEC reporting for a publicly traded company
- Deep expertise in U.S. GAAP and SEC reporting regulations (Reg S-X, Reg S-K)
- Strong experience with public company filing requirements and disclosure standards
- Experience managing SOX (Sarbanes-Oxley) compliance programs
- Proficiency with financial reporting systems (e.g., ActiveDisclosure, NetSuite)
- Exceptional written communication skills, particularly in drafting financial disclosures
- Proven ability to manage multiple deadlines in a highly regulated, fast-paced environment
- Strong analytical mindset and attention to detail
- Advanced Excel and financial analysis capabilities
Location(s): Stoke operates in Bedford, MA. This position is a hybrid position with an office setting based in our Bedford, MA location.
Travel:This position will require approximately 10% travel.

The anticipated salary range for this role is $220,000 - $247,000. The final offer will be determined based on a variety of factors, including role scope, experience and qualifications, education, market benchmarks, internal equity, and geographic location. In addition to base salary, Stoke offers an annual bonus and equity participation.
