Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, MHNL, the Director, System Performance is a key member of the leadership team responsible for advancing organizational performance, data strategy, and system-wide effectiveness.

In this role, you will lead the development and execution of performance management frameworks, data analytics, quality improvement initiatives, clinical applications and reporting systems that drive informed decision-making and continuous improvement across the organization by analyzing key performance indicators (KPIs). You will play a pivotal role in aligning departmental performance with corporate strategy, ensuring operational excellence, and enabling MHNL to adapt and thrive in a dynamic healthcare environment.

As the Director, System Performance, you will play a crucial role in decision-making processes, offering data-driven insights that inform policies and strategies. Your work ensures alignment of departmental goals with the overall organizational mission, fostering a culture of continuous improvement. Through your leadership, the organization can adapt to changing environments, optimize operations, and ultimately achieve sustained success and growth. You will lead and guide teams within this department to achieve strategic and business goals and to collaborate with others effectively.

This on-site leadership role in our St. John's, NL location will require you to be versatile, highly resourceful, and self-motivated. In addition to being the gatekeeper of the annual corporate plan, you will lead a team of professionals who provide services across the organization and may extend to the other Medavie Health Services operating companies. These areas include Project Management, System Performance, and Organizational Performance Management.

The Director, System Performance does not operate in isolation; rather, the role necessitates extensive collaboration with the greater organization. This collaboration is multifaceted and involves working closely with various departments and teams to understand their specific challenges and goals.

Responsibilities include:
  • Evolve and align our Data Analytics & Reporting team with the organizational performance and decision-making needs.
  • Provide leadership, direction, and guidance to a group of specialized professionals by participating, supporting, and ensuring accountabilities for all initiatives that foster a culture of collaboration and a high-performance system.
  • Provide executive oversight for Clinical Services (clinical quality, education/development, community paramedicine), Organizational Change Management, and Enterprise Risk Management, Privacy, and Compliance.
  • Serves as most responsible Director for specific NLHS/MHS owned data systems, such as electronic Patient Care Reporting system and incident reporting systems.
  • Design and launch an organizational performance framework aligned with strategic priorities.
  • Design and evolve our corporate data management infrastructure.
  • Streamline and deliver on the organizational reporting needs. Including board reporting, start plan reporting, risk management plan reporting.
  • Monitors and oversees the accreditation processes, ensuring that MHS NL accreditation project and responsible manager leads are successful in maintaining accreditations in each operation; Ground Ambulance, Medical Communications, Air Program. Supports leaders in each operation for accreditation process and submissions.


Professional Qualifications & Competencies:
  • Bachelor's degree in Health Sciences, Industrial Engineering, or related field (Master's degree strongly preferred).
  • Minimum 8 years of progressive leadership experience.
  • Direct experience in healthcare and/or emergency services environments.
  • Strong expertise in:
    • Performance management and quality improvement
    • Data analytics, reporting, and decision support
    • Strategic planning in complex systems
  • Demonstrated ability to lead through change, complexity, and operational demands.
  • Sound business judgment and be able to think strategically in a dynamic environment. Demonstrate leadership during times / episodes of national, local or internal strife while adapting, and providing services to a rapidly changing environment.
  • Strong analytical, problem solving, and organizational abilities are required.
  • Work both independently and as part of a management team.
  • Demonstrate leadership and knowledge of other operational / support functions are necessary.
  • Display an overall aptitude for negotiation and dispute resolution skills leads team members by example and practices good time management.
  • Ability to work as a team leader at a local, provincial, and inter-agency level.
  • Demonstrative leadership qualities and the ability to coordinate large groups of people through remote management techniques are essential.

Salary Range
  • $130,000 - $150,000 annually.


The Base Pay range may vary depending on the successful candidate or other relevant job-related factors such as knowledge, skills, qualifications, experience and education/training. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Medavie employees may participate in various performance-based incentive programs. Payments under these programs are discretionary and subject to both individual and organizational results.
