Full Job Description
POSITION PURPOSE AND SUMMARY

Responsible for planning, organizing, directing, controlling, and evaluating the activities for Surgical Services. Responsible for implementing and maintaining a systematic process for monitoring and decreasing the costs associated with providing surgical/outpatient services. In collaboration with the Surgery Manager, develops, implements and manages a customer-driven approach to providing surgical/outpatient services. With the overall leadership of the CNO, the Surgical Services Director functions as the primary leader with assigned service line(s)/departments. The Director is responsible and accountable for the effective, comprehensive operations of the assigned area on a 24 hour basis. The Director, utilizing interactive processes, leads the division to exceed the expectations of the patients, physicians, families/significant others, and third party payors in the provision of high quality cost effective services. Creates an environment that enables St. Mary to fulfill its mission and meet or exceed its goals. Supports and encourages staff to act with appropriate authority and assumes responsibility for the work processes in which they are involved. Evokes in staff a sense of ownership and accountability for their work and stimulates them to continuously improve their performance, thereby improving the organization's performance.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • The level of knowledge equivalent to that ordinarily acquired through the completion of a Bachelor's degree in nursing or management.
  • Three to five years progressively more responsible experience in order to acquire an in-depth knowledge or peri-operative nursing theory and practice; develop an understanding of business management; and to develop advance analytical managerial skills and knowledge.
  • Current licensure in the state of Indiana.
  • Advanced analytical ability required to develop goals, plans and policies; evaluate the effectiveness of services; design statistical information management reports; and to develop business plans.
  • Interpersonal and communication skills necessary to interact with staff, managers, members of the medical staff, community members and representatives of outside agencies in the analysis of complex information/issues and in situations of significance to the hospital.
  • Must have advanced management skills necessary to plan, organize, and integrate business with clinical issues.
