Primary Purpose

The Director Student Resourceis responsible for planning, coordinating, and overseeing the College's student resources, providing collegewide leadership for the implementation, on-going coordination, and assessment of services. These currently include SNAP Training and Education Program (STEP), Pathways to Opportunity (PTO), Thrive (benefits navigator), personal counseling, food bank, Clothing Connection, and Saving Grace/victim's advocacy and support.

Note: COCC is currently applying for a federal childcare assistance grant that includes a grant project manager/family resource coordinator position. If the College is awarded this grant, grant oversight and the project manager position will report to the Director Student Resources.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Supervision and Leadership:
  • Provide leadership for the long-term and daily operations for student resources' services, which includes STEP/PTO, Thrive, personal counseling, food bank, Clothing Connection, and Saving Grace, ensuring services are available on all four campuses as needs and resources allow.
  • Lead and facilitate a student resources Advisory Board, using input from this group to inform the all of the support services, policy and practice.
  • Serve as the lead administrator for the STEP/PTO grant, ensuring compliance with federal and State grant requirements. Reconcile monthly and quarterly grant invoices and billing and write annual grant report, ensuring data accuracy throughout. Hire, train, and supervise the STEP College/Career Success Coach. Participate in statewide work groups or trainings.
  • Recruit, onboard, coach and support Clothing Connection volunteers; includes coordinating volunteer training, regular communications, and other support needs.
  • Hire, train and supervise part-time or work-study student employees supporting the Food Bank.
  • Oversee the Thrive and personal counseling contracts, as well as the Saving Grace partnership, providing support to their staff and coordinating services.

Program Support and Development:
  • Connect, collaborate, and establish partnerships with College departments and community organizations to maximize services and strengthen outreach efforts, all with the goal of increasing student utilization of services, grant opportunities, and partner funding for on-campus efforts.
  • Partner with community agencies and develop MOU's or other agreements to provide food donations for the Food Bank. Provide part-time staff with direction for stocking the food bank. Ensure Food Bank has adequate supplies to meet student needs, including occasionally shopping for supplies as needed.
  • Participate in local "communities of practice" supporting volunteer-based programs.
  • Assist in the development and writing of federal, State and local agency grant proposals for additional program funds.
  • Partner with Marketing and Public Relations to increase awareness of and access to services for the College community.
  • Manage budgets for all services, assess overall program and service effectiveness, ensure grant compliance and produce grant reports.
  • Assess quantitative and qualitative data to evaluate the effectiveness of the program and services.

Administrative Duties:
  • Assist COCC's Grants Manager in identifying grant opportunities, writing or editing grant applications and collecting data and information required for grant applications.
  • Facilitate trainings, workshops, or events to promote these student services and create greater awareness for colleagues on how to support low-income students.
  • Occasionally staff the Clothing Connection and Food Bank to ensure student access.
  • Partner with branch campus directors to coordinate well-being resources for all four campuses as needs and resources allow.
  • Perform other essential functions as assigned that support the overall objective of the position.

  • Ability to effectively utilize common Microsoft applications (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and utilize a student information system (Banner) and reporting software (e.g., Argos).
  • Able to communicate effectively in individual and group settings, representing the College on a professional basis, both orally and in writing, using the English language with or without the use of an interpreter.


Ergonomic Requirements

Regular office hours are established between 8 am - 5 pm during the workweek. A flexible work schedule, including nights and weekends, may be necessary due to the nature of the responsibilities.

Incumbent must be able to function effectively indoors in an office environment engaged in work of primarily a sedentary and active nature. Requires the ability to work at a workstation for extended periods. Requires to write, read written materials and computer screens, and ability to use telephonic conversations. Occasional lifting up to 25lbs. All individuals are required to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.

Minimum Requirements

Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Counseling Psychology, Education, or related field.

Experience:
  • Four years of professional experience providing social services, case management, community outreach, or volunteer coordination;
  • Two years of direct supervisory experience and budget management.
