Job Summary

The Director-Safety-Project Construction is responsible for the strategic leadership, development, and execution of comprehensive safety programs supporting Dominion Energy Virginia's construction portfolio, including but not limited to: Coal Combustion Residuals (CCR) Remediation, Energy Storage, Liquified Natural Gas (LNG), Onshore Wind, Offshore Wind, Renewable Natural Gas (RNG), Solar Construction, Thermal Generation, and Privatization.

This role establishes and directs enterprise safety strategy across all phases of construction, ensuring alignment with regulatory requirements, industry best practices, and company standards. The Director partners closely with project leadership, contractors, and cross-functional teams to proactively drive a culture of safety excellence and operational discipline.

Key Responsibilities:Lead and execute safety, fire protection, industrial hygiene, and field work methods programs across all construction projects, ensuring consistency and rigor in implementation.

Ensure compliance with all federal, state, OSHA, and applicable regulatory requirements, as well as internal policies and procedures, across diverse construction environments. Interpret and communicate complex regulatory and safety requirements to project teams, contractors, and leadership, translating them into actionable standards and practices. Drive hazard identification and risk mitigation by overseeing programs that proactively assess workplace risks and implement controls to eliminate or reduce unsafe conditions. Partner with construction leadership and contractors to embed safety into project planning, execution, and daily operations, with a strong focus on high-risk activities and evolving construction scopes.

Leverage data and analytics to identify trends, anticipate risks, and develop targeted prevention strategies that improve safety performance and outcomes. Direct incident investigations and root cause analyses, ensuring timely identification of corrective actions and dissemination of lessons learned across projects and business units. Champion workforce engagement by strengthening safety committees, promoting employee involvement, and reinforcing a safety-first culture across direct employees and contractors. Oversee safety training and competency programs to ensure readiness and compliance for both internal teams and on-site contractors, including public and contractor safety requirements. Provide thought leadership and strategic guidance to senior management on safety performance, emerging risks, and continuous improvement opportunities. Monitor industry trends and benchmark performance to continuously elevate safety standards and incorporate leading practices across Dominion Energy's construction portfolio. Maintain executive-level visibility by regularly informing leadership of safety performance, key risks, and significant safety and health developments impacting construction operations.

Scope and Impact: This role has enterprise-wide impact across major capital construction projects, including large-scale offshore wind, renewable energy installations, energy storage systems, and thermal generation construction, requiring strong collaboration, influence, and leadership across diverse teams and complex project environments.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

The knowledge, skills, abilities and experience required for entry into this job include the following:
  • 10+ years of experience in safety leadership within construction, energy, or heavy industrial environments.
  • Prior supervisory experience and demonstrated leadership capability required. Experience supporting large-scale Offshore Wind, Solar, Battery Storage, and/or Power Generation construction projects strongly preferred.
  • Regulatory Knowledge: Proven experience interpreting and applying federal and state safety regulations, including OSHA requirements.
  • Familiarity with BOEM/BSEE, USCG, and offshore regulatory frameworks preferred. Knowledge and application of Global Offshore Wind Health and Safety Organization (G+) Good Practice Guidance is a plus.
  • Risk Management Expertise: Experience conducting risk assessments, hazard identification, and root cause analyses to drive corrective actions and continuous improvement.
  • Technical Skills: Demonstrated expertise in federal, state, and OSHA safety regulations within construction environments.
  • Working knowledge of safety requirements for renewable energy (wind, solar) and battery storage projects. Proficiency with safety management systems, reporting tools, and data analytics platforms.
  • Leadership and Communication: Proven ability to lead, influence, and develop teams in complex, multi-contractor construction environments.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively engage frontline workers, contractors, senior leadership, and regulatory agencies. Ability to translate complex regulatory and technical requirements into clear, actionable guidance.
  • Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills: Strong analytical capability with the ability to evaluate complex work methods, identify risk trends, and recommend solutions. Demonstrated ability to develop and execute strategic safety action plans that mitigate risk and ensure compliance.
  • Track record of using data and industryinsights to drive measurable improvements in safety performance.

Expected Hiring Base Salary Range:

$149,800 - $194,500
