Director Procurement

Location: White Plains, New York, United States

Function: Procurement

Position Summary:

The Director, Logistics Procurement is responsible for leading procurement strategy across HEINEKEN USA's transportation, warehousing, and logistics network. As the primary Procurement partner to Supply Chain leadership, this role helps ensure a cost-effective, resilient, and scalable network that supports business growth, service excellence, and continuity of supply.

The Director is accountable for transportation and warehouse sourcing, including carrier strategy, transportation tenders, warehouse negotiations, supplier performance management, and network optimization. This role identifies opportunities to improve service, reduce cost, strengthen supplier relationships, and mitigate supply chain risk.

Acting as an embedded extension of the Supply Chain organization, the Director actively participates in key Supply Chain forums, bringing commercial expertise, market intelligence, and strategic recommendations to support business decisions.

This is a Director-level Individual Contributor role. While the position does not have direct reports, it requires a highly independent leader who can develop strategy, influence stakeholders, lead complex negotiations, and personally drive initiatives from concept through implementation. Success requires a balance of strategic thinking, business partnership, and hands-on execution.

The Director serves as a trusted advisor to Supply Chain leadership, helping shape logistics strategy, network design, supplier decisions, and risk mitigation plans. The role is expected to challenge traditional approaches and identify innovative solutions that improve network performance, enhance supply chain resilience, and support evolving business needs.

Key Responsibilities:

Transportation Strategy & Procurement
  • Lead transportation sourcing strategies across domestic over the road transportation, ocean transportation (serving US island markets), and related logistics services.
  • Design and execute carrier sourcing strategies, transportation tenders, and supplier negotiations.
  • Develop transportation networks that balance service, cost, capacity, and risk mitigation objectives.
  • Establish supplier performance management processes and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Monitor transportation market trends and provide strategic recommendations to the business.

Warehouse Network Strategy
  • Lead sourcing, negotiations, renewals, and supplier management activities for third-party warehouse providers.
  • Evaluate warehouse footprint requirements against current and future business needs.
  • Support network optimization initiatives that improve efficiency, flexibility, and continuity of supply.
  • Partner with Operations and Logistics teams to assess capacity requirements and long-term network needs.

Logistics Risk Mitigation & Network Optimization
  • Identify opportunities to strengthen supply chain resilience and reduce operational risk.
  • Evaluate alternative logistics solutions, supplier strategies, and network structures.
  • Lead initiatives focused on improving network performance, flexibility, and business continuity.
  • Develop business cases supporting logistics investments and strategic network decisions.

Business Partnership & Stakeholder Management
  • Serve as Procurement's primary point of contact for Logistics and Supply Chain leadership.
  • Act as an embedded partner to the Operations organization, functioning as an extension of the Logistics and Supply Chain teams.
  • Actively participate in key Operations, Logistics, and Supply Chain meetings to ensure Procurement is engaged early in business decisions, network planning, and risk mitigation discussions.
  • Develop a deep understanding of operational priorities, service requirements, inventory strategies, and supply chain challenges to proactively identify opportunities and risks.
  • Partner closely with Finance, Legal, Regulatory Affairs, and Operations on sourcing and supplier management activities.
  • Support senior leadership through business case development, supplier recommendations, and risk assessments.
  • Influence decisions through data-driven analysis, market expertise, and strategic recommendations.
  • Bring supplier market intelligence, commercial expertise, and industry best practices to support business objectives and operational decision-making.

Manufacturing & Supply Chain Partnership
  • Maintain a working knowledge of manufacturing operations and direct material supply chains.
  • Understand how raw materials, packaging materials, inventory strategies, transportation networks, and warehousing decisions interact to support continuity of supply.
  • Partner with cross-functional stakeholders to assess supply chain risks and operational impacts.
  • Support initiatives requiring coordination across suppliers, logistics providers, warehouses, and manufacturing locations.

Leadership Expectations:

This role is intentionally structured as a Director level Individual Contributor position.

The successful candidate will:
  • Lead through influence rather than organizational hierarchy.
  • Operate independently with a high degree of ownership and accountability.
  • Personally lead major sourcing initiatives, negotiations, supplier engagements, and implementation activities.
  • Build business cases, strategic recommendations, and financial analyses with minimal oversight.
  • Balance strategic thinking with hands-on execution.
  • Navigate ambiguity and evolving business priorities.
  • Serve as Procurement's logistics subject matter expert and trusted advisor.
  • Demonstrate executive presence with senior stakeholders, including Operations Leadership, Finance, Legal, Regulatory Affairs, and executive leadership.
  • Use supplier governance and executive-level QBRs to proactively identify risks, drive continuous improvement, and strengthen strategic partnerships.
