The Opportunity

In partnership with user and leadership teams across PAA (and select teams across CMG), this role will develop strategy, vision and be accountable to deliver and maintain products and tools that enable our Access and Contracting Foundational Capabilities within Public Affairs and Access.  These capabilities are an interconnected set of products, tools and services that support our end to end contracting lifecycle and are used by PAA functional teams in order to maximize patient access through nimbly executed, profitable contracts.  These tools, process and outputs also may be used cross CMG to help drive various CMG level priorities and workstreams.

As a Director on the Access and Contracting Foundational Capabilities Team within Activation and Capabilities Engagement, you will be accountable for product(s) vision, strategy, roadmap and end-to-end product lifecycle. You will promote a strong focus on Product Management including networked, agile ways of working and role model business partnering closely collaborating with stakeholders, strategy, roadmaps and portfolios and co-create solutions to maximize the value delivered by the agile teams within your product area. 



What you will be working on:

Access and Contracting is a set of Foundational Capabilities and tools used by various members across Public Affairs and Access to ensure access to medicines in Genentech’s evolving portfolio and competitive landscape. 

These capabilities cover business critical systems directly impacting Genentech’s ability to achieve organization goals.  Failure and/or downtime of these systems and capabilities could result in significant financial, operational and/or reputation impact to the company.  Thus this role and its oversight is critical in ensuring Genentech’s continued success and that the organization is achieving its critical objectives and goals.

To do this, we need to ensure these tools and capabilities are best-in-class and we continuously improve and evolve them with the changing market and policy environment in order to support our Public Affairs and Access user communities.  In addition, we want to support these user groups in their continued adoption and use of these tools particularly in such a dynamic market and policy environment with constant change and high uncertainty.

As a Director, Activation and Capabilities Enablement ACE you will:

  • Own specific Product(s) within the Access and Contracting Foundational Capabilities domain and ultimately be responsible for their strategy, design, development, implementation.    

  • Be responsible for managing a team of product managers or leads in your focused product areas.

  • Be an integral part of the A&C Product Management Team responsible for cross product strategy and decisions.

  • Partner heavily with end users and leadership teams within PAA as well as PAA Activation & Engagement leads to ensure the right prioritization and to support organizational change management and adoption of new tools, processes and systems within impacted PAA user groups. 

  • Partner heavily with PAA Process Enablement Leads to build strong domain knowledge of PAA technology and processes and act as SME for PAA and the broader CMG organization when needed.

For this current role, the Product focus will be the 1)  Contract Lifecycle Management and 2) Revenue Leakage Foundational Capabilities product areas.Note: while this is the current focus, given the dynamic nature of our business and Genentech’s market access and contracting needs, this role’s product focus and oversight may shift overtime.


Responsibilities:

STAKEHOLDER MANAGEMENT AND PARTNERING

  • Key stakeholders and customers for this role will be users and Senior leadership across PAA including individuals members of teams and leadership teams across any of the 5 functions in PAA.  For example, CCM-LT and various leadership teams within CCM (e.g. CSI-LT, GP-LT, MCC-LT) would be critical partners based on the current products areas of the role 

  • Working with contracting and access subject matter experts,  understand implications, advantages, and limitations of implementing technology, tools on business critical access and contracting processes/organizations and leverage input gathered from key PAA stakeholders to drive and implement recommended changes to enable transformation 

  • Deeply connect and understand the customer and closely partner with stakeholders and customers to develop the strategic direction of the product and shape the product roadmap and portfolio to quickly deliver highest value outcomes for Patients, Customers and Genentech

  • Define and deliver the product roadmap and manage the end-to-end product lifecycle (including continuously facilitating product discovery), ensuring it delivers tangible and meaningful value aligned with customer needs and expected business outcomes.


LEADERSHIP AND INFLUENCE

  • This role will influence senior leaders in PAA and more broadly in CMG to shape and guide direction of product roadmap and strategy development for infrastructure.

  • Lead, manage and mobilize agile products managers and leads as well as the associated product teams and Agile ceremonies like PI planning, PMT, etc

  • Lead and influence in a matrix environment; create an environment of teamwork and partnering across CMG

IMPACT AND COMPLEXITY

  • In partnership with leadership teams across CMG, this role will ensure that  CMG continues to utilize and build best-in-class, E2E enterprise-level market access infrastructure so that contracting solutions are maximized for patients, GNE, and customer experience.

  • Lead portfolio prioritization and strategic planning for the product and collaborate with Product Managers/Leads, subject matter experts to deliver product outcomes by implementing scaled agile methodology (SAFe) for the organization. 

  • Accountable for the total cost of your product, including budgeting and financial management

  • Ensure stability, quality and transparency in all aspects of the product governance and partner with senior leaders to ensure compliance with existing and changing regulations 


Who you are:

  • You have a Bachelors Degree 

  • You have 10+ years of leadership experience in market access and related product-centric knowledge

  • Deep expertise and experience in Market Access, Payers, PBMs, Specialty Distributors, Provider GPOs, 340B entities, SPs, etc Contracting strategy and execution including payer and provider contract and access pull through. 

  • A deep understanding of Managed Care and Organized customers

  • Demonstrates an executive presence, strong business acumen, ability to navigate ambiguity, and manage complexity. 

  • Has an enterprise mindset that can break down silos. Focus on continuous delivery through collaboration, and bringing people together to work towards the same purpose across organizational boundaries.

  • Exhibits intellectual curiosity and integrity and has a strong passion for innovation


Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree (MBA, MS, Phd) 

  • interest in technologies, platforms and solutions that advance patient access.

Travel - Minimized by leveraging virtual collaboration methods

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of South San Francisco, California is $158,700/yr to $294,700/yr. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law.  A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance.  This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed at the link provided below.
