Director, Outbound Transportation

Reports To: VP/GVP Transportation
Location: New Albany, OH (Hybrid)

Role Summary

The Director of Outbound Transportation is responsible for developing and executing Abercrombie & Fitch Co.'s outbound transportation strategy across eCommerce, Retail, Wholesale, Franchise, and Non-Merchandise transportation. This leader oversees carrier strategy, network performance, transportation technology, financial stewardship, and customer delivery experience while ensuring the network is positioned to support future growth.

This role inherits a strong transportation organization with established carrier relationships, disciplined financial management, and best in class operating processes. The opportunity is to evolve transportation capabilities through strategic partnerships, analytics, innovation, and scalable network design that supports changing customer expectations, emerging fulfillment models, and long-term business growth.

As a trusted advisor to Supply Chain leadership, this leader influences enterprise decisions that impact customer experience, fulfillment performance, transportation economics, and future transportation capabilities.

What Will You Be Doing?

Transportation Strategy, Network Design & Customer Experience

  • Develop and execute transportation strategies that balance customer experience, service, speed, cost, capacity, and resiliency across Stores, eCommerce, Wholesale, Franchise, and emerging business channels.


  • Lead network optimization initiatives, including carrier diversification, routing strategies, delivery models, consolidation opportunities, and future-state network design.


  • Develop scalable transportation solutions that support channel expansion, international growth, store openings, and evolving fulfillment models.


  • Partner with Customer Care, Store Operations, Distribution Operations, and Brand leaders to align transportation performance with customer and store expectations.


  • Establish contingency and resiliency plans that protect customer commitments and business continuity during disruptions.


  • Monitor transportation trends, market dynamics, and emerging capabilities to proactively identify risks and opportunities.


Financial Stewardship & Carrier Management

  • Develop and manage the outbound transportation budget, annual operating plan, and transportation forecasts.


  • Drive transportation cost optimization initiatives while maintaining customer experience and service expectations.


  • Establish forecasting discipline, variance management, and performance metrics across transportation spend, service, and customer outcomes.


  • Build business cases supporting transportation investments, sourcing strategies, network optimization, and technology enhancements.


  • Own enterprise carrier relationships across parcel, pool, LTL, truckload, final-mile, and specialized transportation providers.


  • Lead transportation sourcing and carrier negotiations in partnership with Procurement to balance cost, service, capacity, and flexibility.


  • Establish carrier performance programs that drive accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement while preserving A&F's reputation as a customer of choice.


Technology, Analytics & Innovation

  • Lead transportation technology strategy in partnership with Product Management, Data Solutions, Analytics teams, and external technology providers.


  • Leverage analytics, AI, automation, predictive modeling, and transportation data to support sourcing, capacity planning, network design, and operational improvement decisions.


  • Improve transportation visibility, reporting, and decision-making capabilities while evaluating future transportation and fulfillment technologies.


  • Ensure transportation decisions are increasingly data-driven and supported by scalable reporting and performance insights.


Leadership & Cross-Functional Partnership

  • Serve as the connective tissue between Transportation, Distribution Operations, Customer Care, Store Operations, Technology, Finance, Procurement, Carriers, and Business Development teams.


  • Represent Transportation within Supply Chain leadership discussions and influence enterprise decisions impacting customer experience, network performance, and business growth.


  • Lead and develop a high-performing transportation organization while preserving the strong culture, engagement, and performance that exists today.


  • Establish clear expectations, succession strategies, and capability-building plans that prepare the organization for future growth and change.


  • Foster a culture of accountability, innovation, continuous improvement, and customer focus while developing future transportation leaders.


What Do You Need To Bring?

  • Bachelor's Degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Business, Engineering, or related field preferred.


  • 10+ years of progressive transportation, logistics, supply chain, fulfillment, or related experience.


  • 5+ years leading transportation teams and transportation service providers.


  • Deep expertise in parcel transportation, fulfillment operations, carrier management, sourcing, and network optimization.


  • Proven experience developing transportation strategies that improve customer experience, business performance, and operational scalability.


  • Strong understanding of transportation economics, carrier markets, fulfillment networks, and transportation technologies.


  • Experience leveraging analytics, technology, and data-driven decision-making to improve network performance and influence strategic outcomes.


  • Strong financial acumen, including budget management, forecasting, variance analysis, and business case development.


  • Excellent executive communication, stakeholder management, negotiation, and cross-functional influence skills.


  • Demonstrated ability to evaluate future-state network designs, emerging transportation models, and evolving industry capabilities.


  • Retail, omnichannel, eCommerce, or consumer products experience preferred.
