Summary of Position

The Director of Zone Operations is primarily responsible for the coordination and facilitation of identified Zone projects and initiatives within the Calgary Zone. The Director position is a key zonal strategic planning role, working in partnership with both Zone and provincial project leaders. The Director will oversee and lead the Calgary Zone Business Unit workforce to support and advance various Calgary Zone task group work, enhance business operations of the Calgary Zone Service Plan and other priority projects as identified by Zone leadership.

The Calgary Zone Service Plan outlines how the seven Calgary area PCNs and their Primary and Preventative Health Services (PPHS) partner will deliver primary health care services to the citizens of Calgary
and area.

Responsibilities:
  • Facilitate Calgary Zone Service Plan outcomes and ensure compliance with legislative requirements and Calgary Zone PCN strategic goals
  • Collaborate and communicate with the seven Calgary Zone PCNs, PPHS and other stakeholders on progress of programs and initiatives
  • Oversee and support the procurement processes and coordinate resources and material allocation for Calgary Zone Business Unit and task groups
  • Manage the Calgary Zone Business Unit personnel to meet Calgary Zone priorities and expectations
  • Revise and create policies and guidelines and oversee/ensure compliance, as required
  • Lead identified Zone projects and initiatives
  • Demonstrate forward thinking for future obstacles by understanding the internal and external environment
  • Facilitate strategic, Zone-wide objectives and ensure the implementation of planning initiatives
  • Build and maintain relationships with all seven Calgary Zone PCNs, AHS, Alberta Medical Association, Alberta Health and other stakeholders
  • Work in close partnership with the seven Calgary Zone PCN Executive Directors


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Strong leadership skills such as coaching, mentoring, team building and facilitation
  • Proven ability to organize, evaluate, negotiate, communicate, and present information, both verbally and written
  • Proven ability to identify, analyze and resolve conflict effectively
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and multiples deadlines; prioritize demands
  • Demonstrated ability to meet the strategic objectives of the Calgary Zone Business Unit
  • Computer literacy including but not limited to Microsoft Office


Qualifications

Education:
  • Master of Business Administration or related advanced degree, equivalent education, and experience

Experience:
  • Minimum five years of senior management experiences with a demonstrated ability to foster and maintain a positive and cooperative work environment
  • Experience with fiscal management and responsibility, business financials, funding, contracts and partnerships
  • Progressively more responsible experience in a leadership role in Business of Operations or equivalent position responsible for contributing to the strategic agenda in a health care industry or non-profit organization


Reporting/Supervision

The Director of Operations will be employed by one of the Calgary Zone PCNs.

This position works in a matrix reporting structure. It reports to the Calgary Zone PCN Council/Committee co-chair dyad, working closely with the Zone Operations Coordinating Committee co-chairs to meet deliverables. The Executive Director of the PCN employer takes responsibility for the day-to-day management of the position, such as vacation approval, logistics and adherence to policies and procedures.

Remuneration for the position is shared among the seven Calgary Zone PCNs as outlined through the Shared Cost Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Calgary Zone PCNs.
