Description

Our Houston, Texas office is seeking a Director of Surveying to lead and grow a well-established Surveying department focused on land and site development projects and municipal projects across the Greater Houston region. This is an opportunity to shape the future of a thriving practice, lead a talented team of survey professionals, and play a key role in delivering projects that help communities grow.

As the leader of this department, you will be responsible for driving operational excellence, ensuring high-quality project delivery, developing and strengthening client relationships, and guiding the continued growth of our land development services. You will serve as a trusted advisor to clients, a mentor to staff, and a strategic business leader within the organization.

What you will do:
  • Lead and expand the Houston Survey practice, overseeing staffing, resource planning, employee development, succession planning, and overall department performance.
  • Build, mentor, and develop high-performing teams while fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, innovation, and technical excellence.
  • Direct survey projects from pursuit through completion, ensuring successful delivery of scope, schedule, budget, quality, and client expectations.
  • Serve as the senior technical authority for surveying services, providing guidance, quality assurance, and regulatory compliance oversight.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients, developers, municipalities, engineering firms, and industry partners.
  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities, support proposal development, and contribute to practice growth across land development and related markets.
  • Oversee departmental and project financial performance, including budgeting, forecasting, utilization, profitability, invoicing, and accounts receivable.
  • Partner with company leadership to establish strategic goals, operational initiatives, and growth plans for the Survey department.
  • Champion continuous improvement, innovation, and the adoption of new technologies and best practices.
  • Represent the company in professional organizations, industry events, and networking opportunities throughout the Houston market.

The ideal candidate is a Texas Registered Professional Land Surveyor (RPLS) with a strong technical foundation, proven leadership experience, and a passion for building teams, growing client relationships, and expanding market presence. This individual will represent the company throughout the Houston market, working closely with developers, engineers, municipalities, and other industry partners while leading both field and office survey professionals.

What you bring:
  • Active Texas Registered Professional Land Surveyor (RPLS) license.
  • 10+ years of progressive land surveying experience, including significant experience supporting land and site development projects.
  • 5+ years of leadership experience managing survey teams, operations, and project delivery.
  • Demonstrated success leading, developing, and mentoring both field and office personnel.
  • Strong experience managing survey projects, including scheduling, staffing, budgeting, quality control, risk management, and client communication.
  • Proven ability to develop client relationships, secure new business opportunities, and contribute to revenue growth.
  • Experience managing departmental or project financial performance, including forecasting, profitability, invoicing, and resource utilization.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Texas surveying regulations, standards, and industry best practices.
  • Strong business acumen with the ability to balance operational excellence, client service, and strategic growth objectives.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency with surveying technology, field equipment, and industry software, including Civil 3D, Leica Infinity, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Established relationships within the Houston market, including developers, engineering firms, municipalities, utility districts, and other key stakeholders, are highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive innovation, improve processes, and implement technology-driven solutions that enhance efficiency and service quality.
