Orlando Health Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children is seeking a Director of Surgery to lead day-to-day operations of a 24/7 inpatient surgical nursing unit. This leader will drive operational excellence, patient-centered care, and team engagement while ensuring compliance with all regulatory and quality standards.

Position Summary

The Director of Surgery is responsible for the overall leadership, operations, and performance of a surgical nursing department. This role ensures the delivery of safe, high-quality care while optimizing patient flow, staff engagement, and operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide strategic and operational leadership for a 24/7 surgical unit
  • Ensure delivery of high-quality, patient-centered care while maintaining regulatory compliance (e.g., Joint Commission, OSHA)
  • Drive patient flow, safety, and clinical outcomes through effective resource allocation
  • Lead team member engagement, recruitment, retention, and performance management
  • Develop and maintain an effective nursing care delivery model aligned with patient and family needs
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to enhance service delivery and patient experience
  • Manage department budgets, monitor financial performance, and implement cost-efficiency strategies
  • Promote a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement
  • Lead quality initiatives, committees, and special projects that support organizational goals

Minimum Qualifications

Education
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) - required
  • Master's degree (MSN, DNP, or related field) - preferred

Licensure & Certifications
  • Active Florida RN license or Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Additional certifications may be required (ACLS, PALS, etc.)

Experience
