Title: Director of Strategy, Miller Children's & Women's Hospital

Location: Long Beach, CA

Pay Range*: $152,152/annual-$209,207/annual

Position Summary:

The System Director, Strategy for Miller's Children and Women reports directly to the Vice President of Strategy and Growth. This role is accountable for leading the planning, evaluation, and execution of multiple concurrent strategic initiatives across the health system and being the lead at Miller Children's and Women's Hospital. The Director designs, directs, and implements projects that originate from system and hospital strategic plans, as well as ad-hoc opportunities from executive leadership. The Director is expected to deliver measurable growth, operational excellence, and innovation, serving as a key partner to executives, physicians, and multidisciplinary teams.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Strategic Initiative Leadership
    • Lead the evaluation, planning, and execution of large, complex programs and initiatives that drive system growth, service expansion, and operational improvement.
    • Ensure successful completion of high-impact projects, including new clinical services, partnerships, affiliations, operating models, and strategic ventures.
    • Advance projects from concept through implementation, ensuring strategic goals (revenue, volume, market share) are met.
  • Project Management & Execution
    • Define and scope project requirements, resources, costs, and timelines.
    • Design project plans, identify key issues, develop solution approaches, and establish performance metrics.
    • Direct team and workgroup progress; present proposals and status updates to executive leadership and stakeholders.
    • Develop dashboards and KPIs to measure project and process performance; continually assess risks and facilitate contingencies.
  • Collaboration & Facilitation
    • Collaborate with executives, clinical leaders, project teams, and internal/external stakeholders (including vendors and consultants).
    • Facilitate multi-disciplinary dialogue and engagement throughout project lifecycles.
    • Lead teams and direct the work of staff and outside consultants as needed.
  • Data Analysis & Reporting
    • Conduct market, financial, and operational analysis to support strategic initiatives.
    • Prepare analyses, deliverables, and presentations for strategy, business development, and executive requests.
    • Use data-driven insights and lean principles to inform decision-making and drive continuous improvement.
  • Financial Modeling & ROI
    • Create financial pro formas and business cases for initiatives.
    • Assess investment requirements, staffing models, and program selection based on market demand.
    • Evaluate ROI and obtain necessary approvals for new projects.
  • Operational Issue Resolution
    • Identify and resolve operational barriers as they relate to strategic initiatives.
    • Evaluate and redesign workflows, scheduling, and productivity metrics to optimize performance.
  • Program Oversight & Ad Hoc Work
    • Oversee assigned programs and strategic projects as needed.
    • Complete ad hoc requests related to strategy, operations, and business development (e.g., playbooks, acquisition research, business plans).
  • Communication & Education
    • Educate, communicate, and present to stakeholders on all aspects of strategic projects.
    • Share feedback and engage downstream teams to ensure alignment and execution.


Reporting Relationship

  • Reports directly to the Vice President of Strategy and Growth.


*Placement in the pay range is based on multiple factors including, but not limited to, relevant years of experience and qualifications. Education/Licensure/Certification:

  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree (MBA, MHA, or related) preferred.
