Job DescriptionThis is an exciting opportunity for a visionary and innovative leader to direct the Historic Attractions Section within the City of Raleigh's Historic Resources and Museums Program (HRM Program). The new Director will oversee daily operations and programs at Pullen Park Amusements, as well as stewardship responsibility of the historic carousel at John Chavis Memorial Park.
The
Director of Pullen Park Amusements and Historic Attractions will oversee all facets of programming and operations at Pullen Park as well as stewardship of the JCMP carousel. They will serve as a liaison to local community groups and assist and advise on broader city-wide cultural initiatives. The Director reports to the Executive Director of the Historic Resources and Museums Program.
This position will have supervisory responsibilities that include directly supervising 3 full-time staff, 4 permanent part-time staff, and as many as 80 part-time/temporary staff members as well as volunteers. This position will carry out supervisory responsibilities including training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints; and resolving problems. These responsibilities will be carried out in alignment with the organizations policies and applicable laws.
Work Hours:This position will be expected to work rotating park hours Monday through Sunday; 40 hours per week. This position may be required to work weekends and evenings as needed.
Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by employees in this job. Employees may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description.
- Oversee and manage all budgetary revenue and expenditure accounts for Pullen Park.
- Provides administrative and management support for all facets of facility management that shall include, but not limited to, program maintenance, staff supervision, administrative management, and facility operations.
- Directly supervises three (3) full-time staff, four (4) permanent part-time staff, and dozens of temporary part-time staff, and coordinates work schedules.
- Reviews all programs, special events, and classes prior to implementation.
- Oversee development and distribution of marketing materials adhering to City of Raleigh guidelines.
- Serves as a liaison and builds active partnerships with surrounding community groups.
- Promotes programs, special events, and recruitment of staff through presentations to universities, local organizations, and civic groups.
- Works with other Department and City program areas to develop and implement new and innovative Cultural programs for the public.
- Supports public/private partnerships.
- May assist the City in cleanup and repair during inclement weather situations.
Typical QualificationsEducation and ExperienceBachelor's Degree in Leisure Activities, Physical Education, Sports/Athletics, Therapeutic Recreation or related field; 5 to 7 years' experience in recreation program/activity and/or special event implementation, marketing, coordinating, or related work
OR
Any equivalent combination of training and/or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be substituted
Licenses and Certifications- Valid North Carolina Class C Driver's License with a satisfactory driving record, or the ability to obtain within 60 days of hire
Preferred Qualifications- Experience in public administration, public speaking, and resource management concepts
- Basic knowledge of American history in the US
- Familiarity with Past Perfect, RecTrac, and Microsoft systems software

Work Environment:Work is typically performed in a construction site or in a vehicle. Employees may occasionally work in an office or similar indoor environment, an outdoor environment, a street environment (near moving traffic), in confined spaces, and a warehouse or shop environment.
