Overview

 

JOB SUMMARY: The Director of Professional Services leads designDATA’s Professional Services function, including the Project Management Office (PMO) and Training team. This role is responsible for the strategy, operation, and performance of the PMO and Training teams, ensuring client implementations, onboarding engagements, client training, and internal training programs are delivered consistently, effectively, and profitably. 

The Director owns the implementation approach, project delivery methodologies, processes, deliverables, and subcontractor relationships, operating in a matrixed environment where the technical resources delivering the work report through the Technology team. As a member of the designDATA leadership team, the Director partners across the organization to ensure work is properly scoped, staffed, delivered, invoiced, and transitioned into ongoing managed services. 

In partnership with the leadership team, the Director supports the growth and diversification of designDATA’s professional services, including new offerings such as AI services and Training-as-a-Service (TaaS), which are key market differentiators for designDATA. 

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 

Professional Services Leadership 

  • Lead the PMO and Training teams within designDATA’s Professional Services function. 
  • Establish operating rhythms, delivery expectations, reporting routines, and performance standards for the Professional Services function. 
  • Manage resource capacity, utilization, and forecasting across the team, partnering with Technology leadership to secure and coordinate technical delivery resources and staff engagements appropriately. 
  • Own subcontractor relationships and processes, including sourcing, contracts, scope management, onboarding, invoicing, quality, and adherence to standards. 
  • Maintain visibility and report on the overall health, performance, and profitability of professional services and training to leadership. 
  • Collaborate with Business Development on RFPs, Statements of Work, scope reviews, and delivery approach prior to commitment. 
  • Partner with Finance on project financials, including revenue forecasts, invoicing, revenue recognition, and profitability. 
  • In collaboration with the leadership team, support the growth and diversification of designDATA’s professional services, including AI-related services, beginning with AI assessment engagements and expanding into broader AI advisory and delivery offerings. 
  • Serve as a member of the designDATA leadership team, contributing to business planning, cross-functional alignment, and execution of company priorities.  

Project Delivery Methodology and Execution 

  • Own and continuously improve designDATA’s implementation methodology, standard processes, templates, required deliverables, and operating procedures to drive efficiency, consistency, quality, and profitability. 
  • Ensure project managers consistently apply standards across project planning, communication, documentation, risk and issue management, change control, and closeout. 
  • Work with technical teams to translate client requirements and use cases into delivery plans, implementation standards, and repeatable service models. 
  • Oversee project performance to ensure delivery aligns with scope, timeline, budget, quality expectations, and client commitments. 
  • Own escalation management for project risks, client concerns, and cross-functional dependencies, navigating challenging situations to balanced outcomes. 
  • Review project Statements of Work against actual performance to identify scope, pricing, delivery, profitability, or process improvement opportunities. 

Training Services Strategy and Execution 

  • Lead the strategy, planning, and execution of designDATA’s training services across client, internal, and DTG programs, ensuring training is effective, valuable, and repeatable. 
  • Support development and growth of the Training-as-a-Service (TaaS) offering and help expand shared training and TaaS opportunities to sister companies and their clients. 
  • Oversee training included in managed services offerings, including recurring and customized client training and webinars. 
  • Partner with DTG on the Doyon IT Academy for shareholder training delivered annually. 
  • Define and oversee internal new-hire training, including Service Desk onboarding. 
  • Oversee the training content and video library, Learning Management System (LMS), and designDATA certification program. 

Leadership, Management & Accountability (LMA):

  • Provide leadership, direction, and accountability for assigned team members, establishing clear responsibilities, priorities, performance expectations, and measures of success. 
  • Support employee development, engagement, recognition, and performance through ongoing coaching and feedback. 
  • Address performance, behavior, and accountability concerns in a timely and consistent manner, partnering with Human Resources as appropriate. 
  • Collaborate across teams and stakeholders to identify, communicate, escalate, and help resolve issues, dependencies, risks, and competing priorities through the appropriate channels. 
  • Reinforce and ensure adherence to company policies, standards, and required business processes. 
  • Manage team resources, priorities, and capacity to support business objectives and operational result.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES: 

  • Skilled in project delivery management, PMO operations, and project compliance, with the ability to manage multiple technical projects concurrently, perform requirements analysis, and define and document Statements of Work. 
  • Strong command of project financials, including project accounting, reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and an understanding of how delivery decisions affect utilization, margin, and profitability. 
  • Ability to own and manage subcontractor and vendor relationships to consistent standards and healthy margins. 
  • Understanding of the client and technology landscape sufficient to guide the creation of relevant, repeatable training content for designDATA and DTG. 
  • Strong verbal and written communication, problem-solving, organizational, time management, and customer service skills, with a highly collaborative working style. 
  • Experience with MS Project or equivalent project management software, Lean Six Sigma methodology, Microsoft 365, and MS Visio or equivalent application. 
Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, business administration, or a related field required; equivalent professional experience will be considered. 
  • Minimum of 7 years’ experience in information technology or professional services, including delivery of client-facing technical projects. 
  • Minimum of 3 to 5 years’ experience leading a professional services, PMO, or project management team, with direct people-leadership responsibility. 
  • Demonstrated experience establishing or improving delivery methodology, processes, standards, and reporting. 
  • Proven experience managing project financials, including forecasting, utilization, budgeting, and profitability. 
  • Prior experience working for a managed services provider or technology consulting organization. 
  • Experience managing subcontractor or vendor relationships in a delivery environment.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT: The majority of work is performed in a professional office setting with a wide variety of people with differing functions, personalities, and abilities. Potential for Hybrid (Work from Home) scenario.
