Responsibilities

The Procurement Director will lead strategic sourcing, on a spend greater than $250M, with the goal of achieving cost reductions in the total cost of goods and services, increase total % of spend automated with national and regional vendors, as well as in maintaining or improving quality and vendor service levels. This position will report directly to the Vice President of Procurement and is closely aligned with its key stakeholders in the organization and supporting their strategies and processes while maximizing Brookdale's buying potential and savings opportunities in excess of $5M annually.
  1. Utilize strategic sourcing processes to ensure that contracts are put in place that meet the needs of our 1150+ communities, while providing synergy in process and savings. Timing of which is based on contract expiration date or business need.
  2. Identify and prioritize sourcing projects within spend area and develop the annual procurement plan.
  3. Lead/participate in cross-functional teams in the development of sourcing strategies.
  4. Develop project plans and timeline for new projects or programs.
  5. Negotiate and implement regional and national contracts to support the savings and service goals of the procurement team.
  6. Drive contract and vendor compliance to the new and existing national agreements.
  7. Provides detailed reporting on Brookdale programs including trend analysis, rebate tracking, savings initiatives, etc.
  8. Manage all order guides and lead blocking initiative to make recommendations on what items should be blocked and what should be allowed in ecommerce ordering portal to maximize savings.
  9. Work with analysts to ensure program is maintained on an ongoing basis (price verification, product block, etc.).

Qualifications

Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university and a minimum of 5-10 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Master's degree preferred.

Certifications, Licenses, and Other Special Requirements
CPSM preferred

Uses limited independent judgment to make decisions based on precedents and established guidelines. Solves problems using standard procedures and precedents. Knows when to refer issues to supervisor and when to handle them personally.

Knowledge and Skills
Has significant knowledge of an advanced discipline with a working knowledge of related fields. Has significant knowledge of the organization, work environment and process. Is a true champion, who can lead change with internal and external teams. Exceptional problem solving and analytical skills. Proven success sourcing food categories for a national, multi-location organization including; managing RFPs, vendor relationships, contract compliance, etc. Ability to influence and partner with key internal and external stakeholders. Strong analytical background-proficient in Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Word. Strong communication and project management skills. Research and data analysis-cost structure analysis. Willing to make tough decisions and challenge conventional thinking.
