Description of Work

The Director of Origination Technology provides strategic and operational leadership for Nebraska Public Media's broadcast, production, and distribution technologies across statewide television and FM radio platforms. The position serves as a bridge between traditional broadcast engineering and modern IT-centric workflows, bringing a forward-looking perspective on emerging technologies, risks, and opportunities.

Minimum Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in broadcast engineering, IT, computer science, or related field and five (5) years' experience in broadcast engineering or technology origination within the media or comparable industry.
  • Additional years of relevant experience or completed relevant education may substitute for required education/experience on a year-for-year basis.
  • Two (2) years' experience in supervisory or team leadership, or functional supervision.
  • Strong working knowledge of IP-based media standards such as SMPTE ST-2110, PTP timing, AES67, and networked audio/video production.
  • Ability to evaluate emerging technologies and translate technical capabilities into practical, strategic recommendations that support long-term operational, financial, and organizational goals.
  • Ability to lead, mentor, and develop technical leaders, promote accountability through management structures, and foster a positive, high-performing team culture.
  • Ability to provide operational oversight of complex broadcast and distribution systems, including establishing performance expectations, assessing risk, and resolving escalated technical or operational issues.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with technical staff, executive leadership, and external stakeholders.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Seven (7) years' experience in broadcast engineering or technology origination within the media or comparable industry.
  • Five (5) years of supervisory or team leadership experience.
  • Advanced knowledge of broadcast origination, master control, production, streaming, transmission, and digital distribution systems.
  • FCC Radiotelephone Operator's License
