Position Scope:
The Director of Operations is primarily responsible for creating and stewarding the operational processes needed to ensure Communitas achieves its missional impact. Working in close partnership with the COO and other Operations leaders, the Director will implement and lead critical operational functions, including IT, Administration, compliance, and insurance. Depending on organizational needs, the role may also provide leadership and oversight for Human Resources and pre-deployment operations, ensuring these functions effectively support the organization's mission and strategic objectives.
Principal Duties & Responsibilities:
- Regularly evaluate and improve operational processes to ensure Communitas operations remain a strategic, mission-enabling support structure. Champion systems and practices that serve the missional movement while avoiding unnecessary institutional complexity.
- Ensure a strong customer-service orientation across donor service functions.
- Partner with Human Resources and the Pre-Deployment Team to develop and implement support plans for incoming missional staff. Contribute to onboarding and readiness initiatives, including training and coaching in partner development as needed for new and current staff.
- Provide leadership and oversight for IT operations, systems, processes, and the IT Manager, ensuring technology effectively supports organizational priorities.
- Maintain a personal commitment to Mission Partner Development (MPD), recognizing that the level of engagement may increase during some seasons depending on funding levels.
- Maintain sufficient support levels to sustain the role in accordance with an approved support plan; minimum support expectations apply.
- Provide coaching, encouragement, and accountability related to MPD practices as needed.
- Hold direct reports accountable for their own MPD development and funding responsibilities.
- Lead or contribute to additional strategic initiatives and projects as assigned by the supervisor.

- Demonstrated spiritual maturity, sound theological understanding, and active involvement in a local faith community, including meaningful relationships and engagement with those who do not yet follow Christ.
- Proven experience providing operational leadership, developing effective teams, and managing organizational functions within a ministry, nonprofit, or mission-focused environment.
- Demonstrated ability to build, improve, and steward operational systems and processes that serve people, support ministry effectiveness, and advance organizational priorities.
- Strategic and forward-thinking mindset with the ability to identify opportunities, develop practical solutions, and execute plans with clear goals, measurable outcomes, and accountability.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across teams, facilitate productive conversations, navigate complexity, and build trust among diverse stakeholders.
- Experience leading through change while maintaining organizational culture, mission focus, and healthy team dynamics.
- Experience serving in both U.S. and international contexts preferred, with familiarity working within a self-supporting or partner-supported ministry model.
- Ability to lead effectively in a remote environment, including facilitating virtual teams, meetings, and collaboration across multiple time zones.
- Strong organizational skills, adaptability, initiative, and the ability to work independently with sound judgment and limited supervision.
- Proficiency with common workplace technology tools, including Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, Zoom, and other collaboration platforms.
- Bachelor's degree preferred; equivalent experience in operations, administration, nonprofit leadership, customer service, or global ministry support may be considered.
Funding:
This position is funded through personal ministry partnership development (support raising), which covers both salary and ministry-related expenses. Communitas provides onboarding, training, coaching, and ongoing support to help team members build and sustain a healthy ministry partnership team.
