We are seeking a
Director of Municipal Engineering to join our St. Augustine, FL office and lead the continued growth of our municipal engineering practice. This senior leadership role is ideal for an experienced engineering professional with a strong background serving municipalities, counties, public agencies, and government clients. The successful candidate will provide strategic direction, oversee project delivery, foster client relationships, and drive business development initiatives throughout the region.
Key Responsibilities- Provide strategic and operational leadership for the Engineering Department.
- Lead and expand services for municipal, county, state, and public sector clients.
- Oversee project delivery, quality assurance, staffing, resource management, and financial performance.
- Serve as a trusted advisor to municipal leaders, public works departments, county officials, and government stakeholders.
- Pursue and secure new business opportunities through client development, networking, industry involvement, and strategic positioning.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with municipalities, counties, government agencies, and funding organizations.
- Lead proposal development, contract negotiations, interviews, and presentations for public sector pursuits.
- Oversee the planning, design, and delivery of municipal infrastructure projects, including roads, drainage, water systems, wastewater systems, parks, facilities, and related public improvements.
- Mentor and develop engineering staff, fostering technical excellence and professional growth.
- Collaborate with firm leadership to establish department goals, growth strategies, and market expansion initiatives.
- Represent the firm at municipal meetings, public hearings, professional organizations, and industry conferences.
Qualifications & Experience- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
- Active Professional Engineer (PE) license, preferably in Florida or ability to obtain.
- 15+ years of progressive experience in municipal engineering, public infrastructure, and government consulting.
- Demonstrated success managing relationships with municipalities, counties, public agencies, and elected officials.
- Proven experience leading multi-disciplinary teams and complex public infrastructure projects.
- Strong understanding of public funding mechanisms, capital improvement planning, grants, and regulatory requirements.
- Established track record of business development, client retention, and growth within the municipal market.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and leadership skills.
- Experience with FDOT, county agencies, municipal public works departments, and state funding programs is highly desirable.
- Established network of municipal, county, and government contacts.
