QUALIFICATIONS

SDL/SDA New York State Administrator Certification

NYS School Counseling Certification

Minimum five years School Counseling Experience

Experience K-12 as a teacher and/or school counselor preferred

Demonstrated expertise in School Counseling

CORE COMPETENCIES

Develop a guidance curriculum

Establish a monthly meeting with all guidance counselors

Give biweekly reports to Director of Pupil Personnel

Review all new student registration transcripts to streamline proper placement of students

Coordinate high school registration process with Pupil Personnel Services

Assist with Summer School registration

GENERAL PERFORMACE RESPONSIBILITIES

Build a Guidance Counselor calendar in conjunction with guidance counselors

Chair the Guidance Steering Committee

Chair Middle School & High School Student At-Risk meetings

Co-Chair Crisis Committee

Complete district graduation report

Oversee guidance counselor presentations at PTA/PTSA meetings

Co-conduct staff observations including School Counselors, School Social Workers, School Psychologists and the teaching staff with special Education Director

Coordinate all Higher Education events including colleges, job corps, trade and technical schools such as college representatives' visits, college fairs, college tours, college awareness night, financial aid night

Coordinate Guidance Counselor classroom presentations

Coordinate all homework requests due to suspension

Coordinate and disseminate all scholarship information to ensure equal distribution

Coordinate cohort review

Coordinate diploma type review for sophomores, juniors and seniors

Coordinate NCAA Clearinghouse list of approved courses

Coordinate online classes for at-risk seniors through the credit recovery program

Coordinate registration for all PSAT & PLAN test

Coordinate senior parent breakfast with senior class counselor

Coordinate with the AP in charge of 12th grade students review of all at-risk seniors

Service as counselor to all GED students

Assign all out of district students in district counselors

Develop a working relationship with all department chairs and administrators

Develop forms for guidance department

Develop guidance counselor goals in conjunction with department

Develop guidance procedures manual

Develop middle and high school guidance plan

Develop high school profile

Develop literature for guidance department

Field calls involving concerned parents

Participate in secondary council meetings

Prepare guidance budget in conjunction with Pupil Personnel Services

Present guidance information at board meetings

Review all potential high school dropouts with administration

Review all students with attendance concerns with administration and D.O.

Supervise all guidance secretaries, high school and middle school

Homeschool/Homebound Coordination

Liaison for Parentally-Placed students

Assures compliance with local, state, and federal regulations

Serves as school counselor to all Out-of-District students.

Co-supervise School Counselors with building administration

Works collaboratively with the Office of Curriculum and Instruction with the integration and implementation of SEL curriculum on the K-12 continuum to help nurture emotionally literate learners with a deep understanding of their role in promoting equitable and inclusive spaces.
