As the Head of Functional Genomics, you will step into a pivotal scientific leadership role within our Translational Genomics and Proteomics (TGP) Center. Leading a world-class, multidisciplinary team, you will shape the scientific strategy and drive the execution of advanced functional genomics capabilities. Your work will directly bridge cutting-edge technology development and biological application to unlock breakthrough insights across our entire therapeutic portfolio.
Key responsibilities include:
Drive Scientific Strategy: Define and execute the global Functional Genomics strategy to support target identification, disease biology, biomarker discovery, and drug development priorities.
Lead High-Impact Capabilities: Oversee and advance large-scale capabilities in genome-wide screening, perturbation biology, cellular models, sequencing, and multi-omics data generation.
Foster Cross-Functional Synergy: Partner closely with Research Biology, Computational Sciences, Translational Medicine, and Development Sciences to turn complex data into meaningful portfolio impact.
Champion Technological Innovation: Evaluate, develop, and integrate emerging technologies—including laboratory automation and advanced screening platforms—to solve complex health challenges.
Cultivate Top-Tier Talent: Lead, mentor, and inspire a high-performing organization, creating an inclusive and scientifically rigorous environment where individuals thrive and grow.
Expand Strategic Collaborations: Establish and nurture external alliances with academic institutions, industry pioneers, and technology partners to keep Roche at the forefront of the industry.

To be successful in this role, you bring:
Advanced Scientific Foundation: A PhD in Genetics, Genomics, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Computational Biology, or a closely related scientific discipline.
Proven Leadership & Research Experience: 10+ years of progressive experience within biotechnology, pharmaceutical, or advanced research environments, with a track record of leading high-performing scientific teams.
Deep Domain Expertise: Robust experience in functional genomics, including hands-on or strategic familiarity with CRISPR-based perturbation, single-cell or multi-omics technologies, translational profiling, or arrayed-based screening automation.
Strategic Influence: Exceptional communication and partnership skills, with a demonstrated ability to navigate matrixed environments and build consensus across diverse stakeholders.
Innovation Mindset: A strong record of innovation—evidenced by publications, presentations, or technology development—and a passion for translating cutting-edge science into life-changing healthcare solutions.

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of South San Francisco, CA is $181,900 - $337,900. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance. This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed at the link provided below.
