Job Announcement
The Fleet Director is responsible for over 1400 vehicles and is responsible for setting strategic and operational goals for the fleet section. Makes decisions regarding vehicle acquisition, inventory and replacement based on the department's needs and demands. This position is the primary liaison with the Department of Fleet Management (DFM), other county entities, internal customers, and external vendors on fleet matters and oversees the proper preventive maintenance, quality control and work readiness of all department vehicles.

Manages budget preparations and administration for the section and provides guidance, recommendation and advise to departmental managers. Supervises, coordinates and manages the work of staff as well as the organization of the fleet. Provides complex data analysis and reporting of fleet expenses, vehicle performance, tracking and utilization. Writes, edits, finalizes reports and presentations and presents findings and recommendations to department senior managers and leadership. The fleet director is knowledgeable in fleet industry software systems, DMV and DOT regulations and vehicle equipment safety protocols for sworn police officers.
This position performs in the functional areas of Business Management, Fleet Management, Procurement, and Inventory Management.

Independently designs, develops, and coordinates ongoing department programs and special projects;
Performs a wide range of professional-level management work for more than one broad administrative function including complex analysis and diverse project management in a lead capacity;
Coordinates and manages the work of administrative, para-professional, and/or professional-level staff in the day-to-day activities of selected projects. Plans, organizes, and coordinates changes to the policies, procedures, or processes related to multiple administrative functions (financial, procurement, budget, human resources, contract or grants administration, information technology systems, etc.);
Plans and conducts or oversees studies or research activities to ensure program quality, determine unmet needs or ensure efficacy of existing programs;
Provides guidance, recommendations, and advice to departmental managers;
Serves on committees, task forces, and management teams to evaluate the effectiveness and efficiency of existing management/administrative systems;
Writes, edits, and finalizes reports and presentations and presents findings and recommendations to department senior managers.

Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor's degree in field related to the assigned functional area; plus four years of professional work experience within the functional area.

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Four or more years of experience with fleet management.
  • Four or more years of experience with budgets and contracts management.
  • Four or more years of experience in direct supervision of staff.
  • Strong interpersonal abilities to communicate effectively and clearly with a diverse population.
  • Ability to establish and maintain collaborative connections with internal and external partners.
  • Work independently and on interdisciplinary teams.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite particularly MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and MS Excel.
