Job Description:

Nassau Community College invites applications for a full-time Director of Financial Aid and Job Placement in the Office of Financial Aid.

The Director of Financial Aid and Job Placement is responsible for planning, organizing, and managing all activities related to assigned department(s)/area(s) in alignment with the College's Strategic Plan and Goals while upholding the highest ethical standards. The Director works expeditiously and diligently on behalf of the institution, using a data-informed and equity-focused approach to enhance student access, enrollment, and retention through collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Supervise the coordination, evaluation, and implementation of all institutional, state, and federal regulations, policies, and procedures related to financial aid and assigned areas of responsibility.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations governing institutional, state, and federal student financial aid programs.
  • Provide exceptional service to students while ensuring efficient and effective departmental operations and workflow.
  • Provide leadership and recommend the implementation of technology solutions that enhance services within the assigned area(s).
  • Collaborate with administrative offices across the College to improve student services and support student enrollment, persistence, and retention.
  • Administer applicable collective bargaining agreements for support staff and non-teaching faculty.
  • Develop, supervise, mentor, and evaluate assigned staff.
  • Maintain current knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, policies, procedures, and pending legislation related to assigned areas of responsibility.
  • Prepare and coordinate all required internal and external reports necessary to ensure institutional, state, and federal compliance.
  • Assist with the implementation, assessment, and evaluation of policies, processes, and procedures related to assigned areas.
  • Identify opportunities to eliminate redundancies and improve operational efficiency within assigned areas while collaborating with other administrators to support the effective and efficient operation of the College.
  • Work collaboratively with students, faculty, staff, administrators, and community partners to support initiatives within assigned areas.
  • Demonstrate fiscal responsibility and accountability in the development and administration of the department's annual budget; analyze budgetary and financial data and authorize expenditures within established resources and limitations.
  • Participate in professional development activities and serve on College committees, as assigned.
  • Work effectively with diverse populations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or a closely related field.
  • Five (5) years of progressively responsible managerial experience within a higher education financial aid program.
  • Experience using enterprise systems and software commonly utilized in higher education, including Ellucian Banner, PeopleSoft, Microsoft Visio, and Adobe Acrobat Professional.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in Business Administration, Higher Education Administration, Student Affairs, or a closely related field.
  • Two (2) years of direct experience in a community college financial aid office.
  • Experience working in a unionized environment.

The successful candidate will demonstrate:
  • Knowledge of federal and New York State laws, regulations, policies, and procedures governing the awarding and distribution of student financial aid.
  • Knowledge of the application of technology to support and enhance student programs and services.
  • Familiarity with the mission, goals, and objectives of the College, as well as the demographics of its student body and workforce.
  • Knowledge of the local community and the College's service area.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, exercise sound judgment, and work independently.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to identify issues, analyze data, and make sound recommendations.
  • Excellent oral, written, presentation, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Ability to interpret, apply, and explain applicable laws, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Ability to establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with students, faculty, staff, administrators, and external partners.
  • Ability to manage and adapt to change, make difficult decisions, facilitate conflict resolution, and promote employee and departmental accountability.

Additional Information:

The starting salary for this position is $85,000 annually.
