POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Director of Engineering leads the engineering teams and has overall responsibility for technical issues and product performance within the Motors business unit. They will foster a collaborative, cross-functional, and continuous improvement environment within the department through strong leadership and the development of robust product development and engineering processes. The Director of Engineering composes, clearly communicates, and drives department goals and a strategic vision that supports business unit and overall company objectives.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • Provide technical guidance to the team, focused on continually improving products, designs, manufacturing processes, material specifications, and product testing.
  • Deliver on Motors NPD (New Product Development) business objectives.
    • Improve and maintain processes and procedures to drive efficiency in New Product Development projects.
    • Ensure NPD project outcomes lead to successful NPI (New Product Introductions).
  • Develop project management and leadership skills across the Engineering team.
  • Develop standards for project management excellence.
  • Create and implement a strategic vision for the product line design standards and implementation of new motor technologies to improve quality, increase efficiency, and drive down cost.
  • Foster a culture of continuous learning.
    • Design and implement strategies that embed learning into the daily workflow, such as creating cross-functional knowledge-sharing sessions, launching peer-to-peer mentoring programs, and curating on-demand learning resources.
    • Partner with leaders to identify skill gaps and develop targeted learning pathways that not only upskill employees but also drive innovation, adaptability, and long-term organizational growth.
  • Proactively build depth in leadership talent in the Engineering team.
  • Provide regular personnel management including clear communication of goals and expectations while ensuring compliance with company policies.
  • Provide product design support for the company's manufacturing facilities.

REQUIREMENTS AND PREFERRED Experience:
  • Minimum of a bachelor's degree in engineering (mechanical, electrical, industrial, electromechanical, or similar).
  • Master's degree in noted engineering disciplines, engineering management, or business administration preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of engineering experience, including previous management experience of an engineering team responsible for new product development of electromechanical products, motors preferred.
  • Previous experience working in an AS9100 and/or ISO 9001 manufacturing environment is preferrable.
  • Demonstrated desire for learning and applying a continuous improvement approach.
  • Demonstrated leadership and talent development skills.
  • Analytical and mathematical mind, capable of evaluating and solving various complex problems.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and accountability to drive issues to closure.
  • Self-motivated attitude with the ability to multitask and thrive in a timeline-driven environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and work collaboratively.
  • Proficient using Microsoft Office tools.
  • This position requires domestic and international travel.
