About the role

The Director of Engineering is responsible for leading the day-to-day engineering, facilities, maintenance, and safety functions for Hotel Bardo Savannah. This is a hands-on property leadership role for someone who understands hotel operations, building systems, preventive maintenance, vendor coordination, team leadership, and the urgency of keeping a luxury hotel operating at a high level.

This role is ideal for a strong Chief Engineer, Assistant Director of Engineering, Facilities Manager, or experienced maintenance leader who is ready to take on broader property ownership in a high-touch hospitality environment.

What you'll do

  • Lead the engineering and maintenance team in maintaining all guest-facing, public, back-of-house, and exterior areas of the hotel.
  • Oversee preventive maintenance programs for guest rooms, public areas, mechanical systems, equipment, and life safety systems.
  • Manage the daily repair, upkeep, and troubleshooting of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, kitchen, laundry, pool, and building systems.
  • Respond with urgency to operational needs, guest-impacting issues, safety concerns, and facilities-related emergencies.
  • Partner closely with Operations, Rooms, Food & Beverage, Housekeeping, Security, and hotel leadership to support daily service standards and guest satisfaction.
  • Provide leadership, training, scheduling, coaching, and accountability.
  • Oversee vendor and contractor relationships, ensuring work is completed safely, timely, and to property standards.
  • Maintain required inspection records, permits, logs, compliance documentation, and safety-related reporting.
  • Support capital projects, renovations, repairs, and property improvement initiatives.
  • Monitor utility usage and identify opportunities to improve energy efficiency, reduce waste, and support sustainability goals.
  • Help maintain a safe and secure environment for guests, team members, vendors, and visitors.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable building codes, safety standards, brand expectations, and local, state, and federal requirements.
  • Perform other duties as needed to support hotel operations.


Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years of hotel, resort, facilities, building maintenance, or related property operations experience.
  • At least 2 years of leadership experience within engineering, maintenance, facilities, security, or property operations.
  • Strong hands-on knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, life safety, and preventive maintenance practices.
  • Experience leading hourly teams, managing vendors, prioritizing work orders, and supporting daily property operations.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with hotel leaders, team members, vendors, and guests.
  • Strong judgment, urgency, organization, and follow-through.
  • Comfort working in a hands-on environment where leadership means being visible, responsive, and willing to jump in when needed.
  • Hotel or resort property experience preferred.
  • CMMS or work order system experience preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Facilities Management, Construction Management, or a related field preferred, but not required.
