EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY OPEN TO THE PUBLIC WITH PREFERENCE TO TH CITIZENS Competition #: 2026-08-004 Director of Education - Permanent Department: Education Location: Tr'ondëk Hwëch'in Offices - Dawson, YT Posting Date: August 10, 2026 Standard Hours Bi-Weekly: 75 Start Date: Immediately Salary: Level 12 Step 1 ($142,291.50 annually) Closing Date: August 24, 2026 Reporting to the Executive Director, the incumbent is responsible for strategic planning, annual work planning, policy direction, management, administration, and delivery of TH Government education programs and Citizen training supports. The incumbent oversees the Department's core program areas, including early learning and childcare through Tr'inke Zho and Aboriginal Head Start, Kindergarten to Grade 12 student supports, cultural programming at Robert Service School and Yukon University, post-secondary education, pre-employment training and individual employment-readiness supports for TH Citizens. The incumbent leads the TH Government's education-related intergovernmental work, including negotiations and the implementation of initiatives, policies and protocols related to the implementation of section 17.7 of the Self-Government Agreement (SGA) and the 17.7 Co-Governing Agreement. The incumbent serves as the TH Government's representative on the Education Oversight Committee. An Eligibility List may be established from this competition - the duration of the eligibility list may be up to 12 months. The eligibility list may be used to fill future permanent full-time, permanent part-time, temporary full-time, temporary part-time, term, or auxiliary on-call vacancies within the same department and classification based on the organizational needs by going the next highest ranked candidate until the eligibility list expires. • Post-secondary degree (preferably a masters degree) in education, child and youth development, Indigenous governance, public administration or a related field, along with 3-5 years of experience working in the design, development and administration of education and lifelong learning programs and services; an equivalent combination of education, knowledge, skills and experience may be considered.
• Experience developing and implementing strategic plans, annual work plans and budgets.
• Experience with financial management, including budgeting, variance reporting and funding agreement administration.
• Experience conducting negotiations.
• Experience in personnel administration, performance management, coaching and leading the development of interdisciplinary teams.
• General knowledge of the TH Final Agreement (including Chapter 24), TH Self-Government Agreement and TH Constitution.
• Knowledge of social issues impacting First Nations learners as they relate to health, education and the Yukon education system.
• Knowledge of Indigenous pedagogy, curriculum development, culturally inclusive teaching practices and traditional learning approaches.

Assets:

• Proficiency in Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, SharePoint) and moderating videoconference meetings.
• Knowledge of TH culture, traditions, history, demographics, family structures and socio-economic dynamics is an asset.
• Knowledge of the history of colonialism and Residential Schools, including the intergenerational impact on individuals, families, children and communities.
• Familiarity with federal and Government of Yukon legislation, regulations, policies and procedures as they relate to education, childcare, employment, training and language.
