Job Summary: The Wisconsin State Laboratory of Hygiene (WSLH) serves as the public, environmental, and occupational health laboratory for the State of Wisconsin. WSLH is a public sector entity, under the umbrella of the University of Wisconsin. This position works under the general direction of the Director of the Office of Information Systems (OIS).
In this position, the IT Director I serves as the Director of the Dev/Ops Team, supervising a team of 5 Development staff, who are responsible for the development and support of in-house applications, websites, interfaces, reporting systems, and the various LIMS (Laboratory Information Management Systems) that support the laboratories and divisions affiliated with WSLH. This is an on-site role that works with all areas of the organization to development strategy for the many systems that are supported by the development staff.
This position also has an active role in development, which requires development and systems analysis skills, in addition to the supervisory duties to assist, mentor, and develop the Development Team staff.
Typical duties of this position include: overseeing and managing the Development Team, issue management/resolution, assigning tasks to team members and monitoring progress, working with the Project Management Team to determine development tasks and timelines for projects. A large percentage of time in this position is spent performing development duties as required.
This position is full-time and on-site. Following the successful completion of training (typically 6-12 months) and Director approval, the employee may become eligible for up to one remote work day per week

Compensation: Minimum Salary $117, 500/year. Salary to be determined upon hire.

Required Qualifications: - 10 years of on-the-job programming experience.
- Working knowledge and experience with Java or similar development languages and IDE's
- Working knowledge and experience with Oracle and SQL Server databases and advanced SQL skillset, including database design
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to continuously sit or stand at a computer terminal using a keyboard and mouse, viewing computer monitor(s) for extended periods up to 8 hours with breaks
- Ability and endurance to work extended days, up to 10 hours
Preferred Qualifications: - 5 years of staff supervision.
- Working knowledge and experience with DevOps, i.e. the usage/implementation of tools and methods for Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) and automated testing
- Experience managing projects tasks, estimating timelines, and monitoring task progress
Education: Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, preferred.
