Full Job Description
We are seeking an experienced and strategic Director of Credit Solutions to lead the Credit Union's collections, loss mitigation, recovery, and credit risk solutions functions. This senior leadership position is responsible for developing and executing strategies that protect the Credit Union's assets while ensuring a member-focused approach to delinquency management and financial resolution.

The Director of Credit Solutions serves as a trusted advisor to executive leadership, providing insight into portfolio performance, credit quality trends, and enterprise risk exposure. This leader will drive operational excellence, regulatory compliance, team development, and continuous improvement while fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and exceptional member service.
What You'll Do
Strategic Leadership
  • Develop and execute the long-term vision, strategic direction, and annual goals for the Credit Solutions department.
  • Align credit solutions strategies with the Credit Union's mission, core values, growth objectives, and risk appetite.
  • Serve as a key advisor to Senior Management regarding portfolio performance, delinquency trends, charge-offs, recoveries, and emerging credit risks.
  • Represent Credit Solutions on executive and cross-functional committees and serve as an escalation point for complex member and portfolio situations.
  • Partner with the Chief Lending Officer to align risk mitigation strategies with organizational goals and market opportunities.
Credit Risk & Collections Oversight
  • Provide leadership and oversight of collections activities for consumer and small business portfolios.
  • Direct loss mitigation efforts, loan workouts, restructuring arrangements, asset recovery, repossessions, foreclosures, bankruptcy management, and skip tracing activities.
  • Approve disposition strategies for repossessed and foreclosed assets, including vendor selection, sale terms, and loss recognition.
  • Monitor portfolio quality and implement strategies that minimize losses while preserving member relationships whenever possible.
  • Champion a professional, member-first collections philosophy that balances financial stewardship with exceptional service.
Operations & Performance Management
  • Establish, monitor, and report key performance indicators, service levels, delinquency trends, recovery results, and portfolio quality metrics.
  • Develop department budgets and oversee staffing plans, vendor contracts, and technology investments.
  • Identify operational inefficiencies and implement process improvements that increase effectiveness, scalability, and member satisfaction.
  • Oversee collection systems, workflow technologies, integrations, and process enhancements.
  • Ensure service level agreements, turnaround times, and quality standards are consistently achieved.
Compliance & Risk Management
  • Own and maintain department policies, procedures, and workout strategies related to delinquency management, collections, bankruptcy, foreclosure, repossession, and recovery activities.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable federal and state regulations, including FDCPA, Regulation B, Regulation Z, bankruptcy laws, and collection statutes.
  • Maintain strong internal controls and successfully navigate regulatory examinations and audits.
  • Proactively identify risks, address findings, and strengthen controls to protect the organization and its members.
Leadership & Team Development
  • Build, lead, and develop a high-performing Credit Solutions team.
  • Establish clear expectations, accountability measures, and performance standards.
  • Coach and mentor leaders and staff, supporting professional development and succession planning.
  • Conduct performance reviews, approve personnel actions, and address employee relations matters in accordance with Credit Union policies and applicable employment laws.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement, collaboration, accountability, and member focus.
Vendor & Stakeholder Management
  • Manage relationships with collection agencies, attorneys, repossession vendors, bankruptcy specialists, and other third-party partners.
  • Collaborate closely with Lending, Branch Operations, Finance, Compliance, Risk Management, and Information Technology teams.
  • Evaluate vendor performance and ensure alignment with organizational goals, compliance requirements, operational efficiency, and member experience standards.


Qualifications
Required
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, Risk Management, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 7+ years of progressive experience in collections, credit risk, lending operations, workout management, or related financial services functions.
  • 5+ years of leadership experience managing teams and departmental operations.
  • Strong knowledge of consumer lending, collections practices, bankruptcy processes, loss mitigation, asset recovery, and applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze portfolio performance and develop strategies that improve credit quality and reduce losses.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, problem-solving, and relationship-building skills.
Preferred
  • Credit Union experience.
  • Experience leading loan servicing, collections, or workout functions within a regulated financial institution.
  • Familiarity with core processing and collections management systems.
  • Professional certifications related to collections, lending, compliance, or risk management.
Working Conditions
  • Primarily office-based with potential hybrid work flexibility.
  • Occasional travel for conferences, training, industry events, and vendor meetings.
