Salary: $145K to $165KDirector of Construction - MedStar Health Job SummaryThe Director of Construction provides strategic leadership for construction, renovation, and operational project delivery across the MedStar Health portfolio. The position establishes standardized project delivery practices that improve safety, quality, schedule, cost performance, and stakeholder experience while minimizing disruption to patient care.
The Director also leads the Mobile Operations Support Team (MOST), developing a scalable, multi-trade internal service organization that expands internal Facilities capabilities, supports strategic insourcing, reduces vendor dependence, and improves operational performance through data-driven planning and financial stewardship.
Key Responsibilities
• Lead planning and execution of construction, renovation, and operational Facilities projects.
• Establish standardized processes for project intake, estimating, budgeting, scheduling, procurement, construction, commissioning, and closeout.
• Ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, compliantly, and within scope, schedule, and budget.
• Identify and mitigate construction, operational, and financial risks.
• Develop and execute the long-term strategy for MOST, expanding internal service capabilities across multiple skilled trades.
• Evaluate contracted services and develop business cases for strategic insourcing and operational efficiencies.
• Establish workforce competency standards, training programs, productivity measures, quality metrics, and customer service expectations.
• Develop and manage construction and operational budgets, financial analyses, and return-on-investment evaluations supporting capital and operational initiatives.
• Monitor organizational performance and implement continuous improvement strategies that demonstrate cost avoidance, operational value, and service excellence.
• Build collaborative partnerships with hospital leadership, Facilities teams, clinical stakeholders, vendors, and enterprise support functions to align construction and operational initiatives with organizational priorities.
Qualifications
Required
• Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Facilities Management, Business, or related field preferred.
• Healthcare construction or Facilities Management experience.
• Significant experience managing complex construction and capital projects.
• Strong knowledge of construction practices, building systems, contractor management, project delivery, and financial management.
• Demonstrated leadership of multidisciplinary teams and enterprise initiatives.
• Excellent communication, analytical, and relationship management skills.
Preferred
• PMP, CCM, PE, CHFM, or equivalent professional certification.
• Experience developing multi-trade Facilities organizations, centralized service models, and strategic insourcing programs within complex, multi-site healthcare environments.
