Job Summary

Staff position in the Veterinary Teaching Hospital/Department of Clinical Sciences. The successful applicant must have a commitment to the University's tri-partite mission of teaching, research, and service. This position reports to the VTH Director. The successful applicant must work closely with Department Heads, clinicians, research scientists, students and other personnel to create and maintain an operational environment consistent with standards required by licensing and accreditation agencies.

Essential Job Duties
  • Develop and/or update policies and procedures for Central Pharmacy operational control, quality assurance and occupational safety.
  • Maintain an accurate, up-to-date inventory of biological and pharmaceutical agents stocked in the pharmacy.
  • Maintain an accurate, up-to-date price listing for all pharmacy products.
  • Monitor and ensure that hospital dispensaries are stocked and operated efficiently.
  • Supervise the pharmacy technician and work-study students and ensure that they perform their duties and responsibilities in keeping with standard practices.
  • Instruct students, in collaboration with clinicians, in areas of expertise prescription writing, drug calculations, inventory maintenance and control, etc.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of the VTH.
  • Ensure that all local, state and Alabama State Board of Pharmacy laws and regulations are followed.


Qualifications (Education, Experience and Specialized Training)
  • PharmD or equivalent degree.
  • A minimum of one year of clinical experience in a retail or institutional pharmacy.
