Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced, relationship-oriented Director of Business Development to expand Warren Whitney's client and referral relationships throughout Central Virginia.

This is a senior, consultative business development role. The Director will develop trusted relationships with business and nonprofit leaders, understand the opportunities and challenges facing their organizations, and identify ways Warren Whitney's professionals can help.

The successful candidate will be comfortable engaging with CEOs, C-suite executives, board members, business owners, and other senior decision-makers. Equally important will be developing strong referral relationships with trusted advisors and other influential members of the business community.

The Director will work closely with Warren Whitney professionals to connect prospective clients with the right expertise and develop relationships that lead to long-term client engagements.
Key Responsibilities
Develop Client Relationships and New Business
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with prospective and existing clients, particularly CEOs, C-suite executives, business owners, and board leaders.
  • Identify organizations that could benefit from Warren Whitney's fractional executive and consulting services.
  • Develop a strong understanding of prospective clients' business needs, challenges, and priorities.
  • Take a consultative approach to business development, connecting client needs with the appropriate Warren Whitney expertise and services.
  • Guide opportunities from initial relationship development through proposal and engagement.
  • Identify opportunities to expand Warren Whitney's relationships and services with existing clients.
Build Strategic and Referral Relationships
  • Develop and strengthen relationships with bankers, attorneys, wealth advisors, insurance professionals, board members, investors, consultants, and other trusted business advisors.
  • Ensure referral sources and community influencers understand the breadth of Warren Whitney's capabilities and the types of client situations in which the firm can provide value.
  • Build mutually beneficial relationships with complementary professional service providers.
  • Represent Warren Whitney actively and effectively within the Richmond and Central Virginia business and nonprofit communities. Occasional overnight travel is required, typically 2 to 3 times per year.
Collaborate Across the Firm
  • Become an integral member of the Warren Whitney team and develop a strong understanding of each professional's expertise and experience. Supervise and collaborate with the firm's Marketing Manager.
  • Work closely with Warren Whitney professionals to identify and pursue opportunities and develop appropriate solutions for prospective clients.
  • Help ensure a seamless transition from business development to client engagement.
  • Participate actively in firm meetings, events, and other activities that strengthen collaboration and client service.

Qualifications
  • A demonstrated track record of successful business development, relationship management, or client development, preferably within professional services, commercial banking, or a related field
  • Established relationships within the Richmond and Central Virginia business and nonprofit communities
  • Experience developing trusted relationships with CEOs, C-suite executives, business owners, board members, and other senior leaders
  • Strong business acumen and the ability to understand organizational challenges and connect clients with appropriate expertise and solutions
  • A consultative, relationship-oriented approach to business development
  • Excellent written, verbal, interpersonal, and presentation skills
  • Strong judgment, initiative, and problem-solving ability
  • The ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with a team of experienced professionals
  • A genuine commitment to doing what is best for clients and building long-term relationships

Compensation and Benefits

The expected salary range is $130,000 to $150,000, based on experience, plus performance-based incentive compensation tied to business development results.
