Director of Business DevelopmentThe Director of Business Development ("Director") is a senior leadership position responsible for shaping and executing the firm's business development, marketing, and client services strategy. The Director will evaluate, design, and implement business development strategies, marketing and communications initiatives, and client service programs to advance the goals and strategies of the firm's strategic plan in coordination with attorneys and staff.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIESThis is a high-visibility role that works collaboratively with firm leadership and has meaningful influence on the firm's growth. Specific job responsibilities include:
- Lead the firm's business development, marketing, and client services initiatives, including strategic planning, client service programs, cross-marketing efforts, and measurable growth-related programs.
- Identify opportunities to expand business with existing clients and pursue new business generation with tangible results.
- Actively participate in the community and local organizations to establish relationships and develop potential opportunities.
- Coordinate with attorneys on responses to requests for proposals and similar requests from potential clients to ensure high quality deliverables.
- Meet regularly with Practice Group Leaders and other attorneys to bring ideas and opportunities and to implement business development strategies and related programs, achieve desired goals, and produce measurable results.
- Coordinate client surveys, client feedback interviews, and periodic client service meetings with representative clients and Relationship Partners, using research tools to evaluate business development initiatives and identify growth opportunities.
- Oversee the planning and execution of client seminars, lawyer speaking engagements, special events, panel participation, sponsorships, community programs, and other marketing efforts.
- Plan and implement the use of the firm's resources for client entertainment and business development, including coordinating attendance to maximize business development opportunities.
- Develop and maintain marketing materials, including firm brochures, attorney biographies, website content, branding templates, RFP templates, presentations, and other business development materials.
- Develop and implement the firm's communications, public relations, and advertising programs, including internal publications, external publicity, news releases, client alerts, firm announcements, media contracts, and advertising campaigns.
- Periodically design, plan, and conduct in-house marketing, business development, and client service training sessions, in coordination with the firm's CIO, maintain oversight of the firm's CRM and promote practices and procedures that support accurate client data and the firm's marketing goals and objectives.
- Monitor industry publications for developments in law firm marketing, business development and client service.
- Develop, mentor, and work collaboratively with Business Development team members.
- Prepare the annual marketing budget for the firm and practice groups, and evaluate business development and marketing-related expenses with the Executive Director, practice group leaders, and client service team leaders.
- Provide regular feedback to the Board of Directors, Managing Partner, and Executive Director on business development programs and results.
- Other duties as assigned.
Desired Job Qualifications:- Significant Business Development and/or Marketing experience in a professional services environment required, with law firm experience preferred.
- Familiarity with the services provided by a corporate law firm and understanding of the needs and expectations of law firm clients.
- Customer service focused, proactive, responsive, and action orientated.
- Ability to create and implement effective business development strategies.
- Ability to communicate with and gain the confidence of lawyers and staff.
- Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills and ability to build relationships.
- Highly organized and able to work independently and with a team.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, database management, internet research, and website marketing.
